We began our lesson with a quick review focusing on skip counting and counting coins. Then Patrick completed word problems following the proper steps to find the solution. Even though Patrick tends to want to solve all of the problems in his head, he is beginning to see the importance of math pictures in problem solving:)
Patrick added two more sentences to a previous writing prompt. After a lot of coaching Patrick reread and edited his work. Then we choral read chapter 2 of his chapter book. He was excited to read together:)

Lesson Comments
Patrick was not in a good place today. He was resistant to work and was very grumpy.
Patrick did a before sketch 10 different landforms and bodies of water. Then we researched each landform and he either added detail or redid his "before" image. Then we watched the BrainPop on landforms and Pangea.
Today Patrick completed his FF protocol. He had an opportunity to play a couple of new games, since he accelerated to Reading Level 2. He appeared to enjoy these new games. In LB, we had some extra time to complete an activity in his workbook and begin a new story entitled, Frog Meal. We used this passage to review the meaning of an adjective. We charted the adjectives from his story. He did very well when identifying which words were adjectives. After reading the story independently, he accurately answered questions to demonstratehis ability to visualize the images presented from the reading. He aslo correctly identified the the gestalt and details from the story. He used what he read to sequence the events using numbers one through four. Great work, Patrick! In keyboarding Patrick completed 2 modules with an 83% and 96% accuracy rate.
Patrick and I reviewed number patterns with skip counting by 2's, 5's, 10's. Then I modeled problem solving steps with an exemplar. Patrick and I read the problem together looking for clue words and numbers and we read. Patrick wanted to quickly calculate the answer without drawing a picture and making a number sentence. Modeling, I continued following each step. As I worked Patrick wanted to revise his answer. We discussed how helpful drawing a math picture can be in word problems. Then Patrick completed a word problem his own. With minimal guidance from me (reminders to follow each step) Patrick was successful! Lastly, Patrick and I went out to the court to review mental math fact computation.
Patrick and I played a tic-tac-toe like word game with words from his repeated readings. Patrick seemed to enjoy the game. He struggled a little with rhyming, but did wonderful reading and spelling familiar words correctly! Patrick set a goal to read his passage with 1 error or less. Patrick met and surpassed his repeated reading goal in just 2 readings!

Lesson Comments
Patrick was motivated, determined and successful in reading today! However, I was surprised by his inability to rhyme familiar words. He was focused on initial sounds rather than endings even after several examples were modeled with familiar word families.
Today Patrick began the next program in FF. He started Reading Level 2. Some of these games are similar to his last program. The games that are similar are more challenging. Patrick began a new game, Dog Bone. In this brain game, he listens to a story and must read and choose the correct answers. It requires using listening and decoding skills. Patrick attended a presentation put on by one of his peers.
