Lesson Comments
Patrick is showing some improvement in creating his chord shapes, but we are still needing to work on hand positioning so that he gets full resonance from each note in the chord. He was getting frustrated, so we switched to reading and fretting single notes for the time being. Maybe this will help develop the hand strength and dexterity needed to create full chords with good tone and note clarity.
Today during Patrick's normal classes, he participated in many fun festivites. Patrick and his peers had two special occasions to celebrate- Judie's birthday and Valentine's Day. Patrick engaged in bingo, making Valentine's bracelets, singing songs, making treats, and passing and receiving Valentine's. It was a very special day where everyone had a great time and continued to build friendships. Have a great weekend.
Patrick finished making Valentines for his friends. Then we discussed writing about the desserts for the Valentine snack. He chose to write about making milkshakes. We reviewed sequence words and he read everyone correctly. The words included first, second, third, next, now, last and after that. Lastly, he began writing.
Patrick reviewed and read sequence words to write the directions for making milkshakes. He talked through each step and then generated a sentence. We took turns writing the sentences, but Patrick developed all of the content. Then he reread the directions and we worked together to edit. We focused on capitalization and periods. He recognized when he used capital letters incorrectly and corrected them independently. Patrick has been doing an excellent job with reversals. I have not had to remind him about bs or ds in almost a month! I noticed he used the poster I made for him today when forming the letter d. This is excellent because he his taking it upon himself to think about letters and use the tools he needs to make sure he is forming them correctly! Then Patrick worked invited some friends to help us make the Chex Muddy Buddies and Milkshakes.
Today Patrick continued to brainstorm ideas to add to his descriptive writing piece, in his LB class. He completed his story by using a thesaurus and editing his story. He did a phenomenal job, and proceeded to make it captivating for his audience. Patrick provided additional details when reflecting on his structure words. In keyboarding, he began to type his story from his LB class. He learned how to save a document and retrieve it. Great day!
Patrick continued work on his book on dog care. He titled it: Dogs for Dummies. We discussed parts of a book, and he practiced the following skills while creating his book: reading a chart, writing simple and more complex words, phonemic awareness, vowel digraphs/dipthongs, use of suffixes and blends, and use of complete sentences.
