Lesson Outline
Today Patrick appeared extremely cheerful. He is always a pleasure to be around. Patrick continued his FF program. In his new program, he played Tomb Trek and Paint Match. Today was his first day playing Paint Match, which is similar to a game he played in his last program. I noticed a major improvement in his ability to recall and correctly match the correct answers. In L-B, Patrick worked on Chapter 13 on a story entitled The Long Trip. Patrick quickly and accurately responded to comprehension questions pertaining to the story. Patrick did a great job today. I hope that you all have a wonderful weekend!

Subtraction 10 and Under
Lesson Outline
Today Patrick and I reviewed the strategies we practiced for successful addition (find the biggest number, count on, use a number line). We played Make a Number, which Patrick loves to do!!! It is a great game to get his mind working and focused on number combinations. Patrick took a speed test and completed it correctly in 35 seconds. Next, we began subtraction. He seems very nervous about the concept of subtraction. I introduced fact families and we used the same strategies (start with the biggest number, count back and use the number line). We will continue working on speed in addition and subtraction until he feels comfortable and fluent.

The long weekend and being out sick seemed to take a toll on Patrick's addition fluency. He is heavily dependent on the number line and showed great difficulty in counting on and back.

Lesson Outline
It was great to see Patrick back in school and feeling well. He completed 2 modules in his touch-type program and scored well. It frequently takes time to warm up, but once he does he is productive and impressive, especially for a first grader! Patrick completed his protocol in FF. He began a new level, which was exciting for him. He was successful and stated that he was enjoying his new program. I believe, too, this level will be a good change for him. Super job, Patrick!

Reading Comprehension (sequence) and Writing
Lesson Outline
Today Patrick read a story and focused on sequence. After reading the story fluently, Patrick put the main events in order and we generated a list of sequence words to order the events in the story. We then wrote a summary of the story using the sequence words from the generated list. Next we used the -ake chunk to create a list of 12 words. Patrick really enjoys word ladders. He is very good at it. Lastly, Patrick wrote a response to chapter 3 of the Flat Stanley.
