Snack with peers. They are all beginning to bond and really develop friendships. Patrick continued working on 3.2 How to make 8. He did the independent practice today of solving the two parts that can make 8. He answered word problems containing making 8 and critical thinking problems that required him to find a mystery number based on the other clues given. (The whole is 8. One part is 5. The other part is _____) We played "Go Fish Make an 8" with a deck of cards. Patrick doesn't have them memorized entirely yet, like he does "Make a 10," but he recalled most. (and looked at his study card to recall the others)
Practiced practiced reading short e words. Prior to reading them, I had him put his new short e word families in alphabetical order based on the second and third letter. (ell, end, ent, est) He did this newly obtained with 100% accuracy, after just learning it last week. He read each word, identified the word family they belonged to, and classified them under the correct category. Following classifying them, he read each list by just changing the beginning sound of each word to make rhymes. The first couple of lists, he had to still sound out each letter, but he began to get the hang of the rhymes and fluently read them without breaking them apart. He read I Love Art Class and took a comprehension quiz on it asking him to identify the main idea. He began the prewriting stage of the writing process by generating ideas about what he loves (lacrosse) and came up with three details why. He recorded this information into a graphic organizer that he'll be using to draft his ideas.
Patrick enjoyed his keyboarding class today. He is doing very well, and continues type more efficiently each time. Today he was able to locate and utilize the letters t and u. He practiced various drills which incorporated all of the letters he has learned, thus far. Patrick did well on his picture to picture lesson in V/V. He was able to verbalize a description of a photo of a girl rollerblading down the street. He used the structure cards to assist him in this process. In Fast ForWord he continues to make progress. He utilized a software program called Sky Gym which helps improve Patrick' sequencing skills, sound processing and working memory. He is doing wonderful!
