Both Anna and Quinn did great at their online games. I think this is really helping Anna with her note recognition and sight reading, and Quinn did really well with listening to and repeating rhythms.
Students played computer games in language arts and math. They played against other students playing online. Very good lesson in speed math and word recognition.
Anna and Quinn reviewed the Florida state symbols at the beginning of class. They drew pictures of the symbols that they researched yesterday. Next, they learned about Florida's economy, which includes agriculture, tourism, and technology. Next, they completed a crossword puzzle that reviewed some of the terms/facts they've learned this week. At the end of class, we threw one of the stuffed animals around and they answered questions based on this week's lessons. This was actually a great way for them to review the information we've learned this week. Anna and Quinn have been an absolute pleasure to teach!
Today, Anna and Quinn completed a brief True/False quiz about the U.S. Constitution. I helped them a bit, but they knew most of the answers on their own. Next, we discussed that each of the 50 states has its own constitution. We started to talk about Florida's Constitution; just like the national government, it has three branches: the executive, legislative, and judicial. We also learned about the Seminole Indians and we watched a video of a Seminole war dance. At the end of class, Anna and Quinn were given a worksheet and had to research the various Florida state symbols. They learned that the panther is the state animal and that the mockingbird is the state bird, in addition to several other symbols.
Anna and Quinn are working together on this project to create a a three dimensional cityscape. Today they both painted milk cartons different colors to be used as the buildings in the city. The milk carton buildings will also be collaged on to create architectural details. One of the layers will be colored paper rubbings to add visual texture. After Anna and Quinn painted their cartons we went outside on the playground to find textures to make their rubbings with using chalk pastels.
Today Anna and Quinn had their math test on money. This test covered the chapter 5 in the Envision 2nd grade text and lessons 1-7 & 1-8 in the 3rd grade text. We began class by reviewing all the material that would be on the test on the board. Then Anna and Quinn took their test. Quinn did extremely well on this test scoring an 11 out of 12. Anna struggled on this test, she answered 8 of the 11 questions correctly. Both children were given and extra credit assignment to bring up their grades. Anna and Quinn finished class by playing on Sumdog!

Spoke with Mom and she felt the test gave an accurate depiction of their knowledge. She felt that Quinn was much faster and had a better understanding of the material.
Today, Anna and Quinn learned about how different animals grow. They discussed the for stages of every animals life: birth, growth and change, reproduction and death. We discussed the vocabulary terms, metamorphosis, inherited and learned traits. We read pages 50-57 in the textbook. Anna and Quinn took notes while reading the chapter in the how animals grow worksheet. We compared different animals life cycles (butterflies, frogs, chickens, bears and turtles). Anna and Quinn did very well with today's lesson.
Since I only had Quinn today (Anna was absent), I gave him a choice of what to do in yoga. He wanted to re-read, "Moody Cow Meditates." After the book, we did some ball work, push-ups, and stretches. I taught Quinn how to do "bicycles" (alternating knees and elbows). Other poses today were bridge and wheel. Quinn earned a sticker for his participation and listening today.
