Ben had some questions on different topics for his exam tomorrow. He asked if we can go through those topics and do some problems, so that is what we did.
Seeing as Ben hadn't yet taken the final test at school, we covered some more problems in the pre-test material. Ben was a lot less sleepy this week, and worked very well through the problems! It has been a great year working with Ben, and I wish him all the best and that he has a fun summer holiday.

It really has been a good year working with Ben. I hope he does well on the final test!
Ben had attempted the unit pre-test at school, and the idea was for us to tackle the actual unit test, but apparently his math teacher has to unlock the test. So instead we looked over the problems that Ben had had some trouble with in his pre-test. For the most part he had done quite well, but there are still a few small areas that he is a bit unsure of. In class, I concentrated on those areas, and I hope they're a bit clearer for Ben now. He was rather sleepy - it's the end of the school year, and I know students are under a lot of pressure - but I'm sure the upcoming long weekend will be refreshing for Ben, and that he will be on top of things again next week.

I'm a tiny concerned about the fact that Ben is still a little bit confused about how to approach certain mathematical problems - we appear to be returning to the same difficulties with the same concepts, even though we've covered them several times in the past. However, in certain other areas, Ben is very strong, so I'm not too worried. Indeed, as I mentioned in the comments to the parents, he was very, very sleepy yesterday, so hopefully the long weekend will refresh him, and he'll be able to complete the unit test next week.
Ben brought me up-to-date with what he had done at school on the Scattered Plots unit. He told me what he had learned in the online video lessons, and then we sat down to the quiz. This time everything went swimmingly, and it was great to see how confident Ben was in tackling the problems. I look forward to seeing how Ben does on the unit test, which I know he will be tackling in the coming days.

A much better lesson, although I still found one of the problems a bit ambiguous. It would have been nice to zoom in on the screen to see the graph more clearly, but after all the problems Ben has had with the system kicking him out in mid-test and all that I didn't dare mess with the settings. But, Ben is looking nicely confident for the upcoming final unit test.
We started today's class by briefly reviewing the concept of scattered plots, and then proceeded to tackle the pre-lesson quiz. Ben worked very well through the problems, and really appeared to grasp the topic. Unfortunately, some of the questions were very fiddly - one of them, for example, involved eyeballing a graph and to my mind the answer could have gone in either of two ways (and sadly we picked the wrong answer). However, Ben appeared quite confident and ready to attempt the test in class later this week - I'm sure he will breeze through it.

It's always so nice to tutor Ben - his good nature shines through, even when we encounter some annoyances, as we did in this past class. I'm sure he'll do well in the unit test, though, and I look forward to working with him on the next topic.
In today's class we tackled the quiz on the unit on working with equations in point-slope format. Around half of the questions were word problems from which he had to identify the ordered pairs, and from them calculate the slope of the line. After that, two of the points and the slope were substituted into the standard formula for the point-slope, and from that a linear equation describing the situation mathematically can be worked out. Ben worked very hard in class, and did a terrific job.

Ben was very alert today in class, and worked so hard, and towards the end of class was rattling off the numbers to me while we were working through the problems.
Today we worked on the Assignment (before the Quiz) for the unit on linear equations with two variables. The problems focused on the slope-intercept and point-slope formats for linear functions with two variables (x and y). Ben was initially a little bit hesitant in solving some of the problems, but I do feel that he was beginning to grasp the concepts by the end of class. He started the Quiz, but there was time only for the first two problems. He'll continue at school tomorrow.

Ben was a bit sleepy today, which impacted his concentration in today's class - but I understood he had been at work quite late last night. Nevertheless, he tried very hard to stay on topic today - he's always so eager to do well!
I was so happy to hear that Ben passed the last two pre-quizzes at school! Today, Ben worked through the test for linear equations... and passed! I'm so happy for him. His mathematical reasoning has greatly improved over the last few weeks - it was a joy to see him process the problems. I've mentioned this multiple times already, but I have a feeling that this - online, independent - method for learning math really suits Ben.

Ben has really improved in his approach to tackling math problems. He still needs a nudge here and there, but he really appears to have grasped many of the concepts that were confusing to him earlier this year. A real pleasure to see the mathematical thinking process in action!
