Fractions
Lesson Outline
I reviewed homework with Brogan. We discussed how to solve problems together. Brogan could explain how she arrived at the solution. We compared fractions, reduced and multiplied fractions. She completed exercises with fraction strips and converted fractions on the dry erase board herself. She learned how to "guesstimate" an answer and then prove it correct. She checked her work and showed her work on workbook pages I copied from Envision Math Workbook, following homework, in sequence, pages 69 and 70. She learned how to make fractions equal with a common denominator. Whe worked through problems on the dry-erase board. We thought of new examples to make certain she understood the concept. Finally, she began ordering fractions, which required her to make them equal with common denominators and compare.

Multiplying fractions, comparing fractions
Lesson Outline
We checked Brogan's homework together, reducing fractions further. We cut and used fraction strips to compare fractions using greater than and less than. Some mixed numbers needed to be changed to fractions to be compared and we reduced the two fractions to their simplest form. Brogan completed page 68 of Envision Math using the strips. Homework is to independently complete page 67 using the fraction strips also.
