We started with a recap of yesterday's material and then dug deeper. We compared the graphs of the natural log function to the common (base 10) og function. We ended up by estimating both natural and common logarithm values and checking our estimates with the calculator.

Jessica's attitude. She's a little bit more willing to go out on a limb and take a guess when starting a problem.
Continue chapter 38 and begin 39. Discuss end of the 60's and the Vietnam War, focus on Nixon administration and his achievements, the beginning of the 1970's, the energy crisis.

We discussed some tests and disorders involving the intestines and appendix. Also discussed the original research into the digestion in the stomach performed on the Canadian trapper.
We finished of a problem requiring the use of Simpson's Rule to estimate an area under a curve. Then we discussed Natural (Naperian) logs and logs to the base 10 briefly. We graphed the natural logarithmic function on the calculator.

Jess's attitude is fine. She seemed to be more willing to engage in 'give-and-take' conversation than she usually is, which is good for her and for me.
We selected a definite integral problem on which we had worked before, using the estimate from the graphing calculator, the Trapezoidal Rule and direct integration with a formula and the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus and estimated the value using Simpson's Rule. Then we repeated the process with another problem. The Simpson's Rule solutions trended to be more accurate than the Trapezoidal Rule estimates.
