Continue working on basic jazz beat with comping exercises. Another great session. Will is consistently improving and always works very hard in class. He is starting to get control over his coordination and some of the 16th note beats are coming more easily to him.

Will scored 75 C for his third quiz. He could have had a better grade if he has studied for the test. Because he did not, I gave him 10 minutes to review before the test.
Wil was supposed to finish the short story for today, but did not as he forgot we had a class this morning. He spent the first part of the class reading, but then we got into a great conversation about the themes of the story. Will did a great job following the lesson, and was an active participant in the discussion. What pleases me most is his ability to relate the material to his own personal experience. Great work!
Will started the class off by saying he'd rather spend the last week discussing literature than learning grammar (which is totally understandable). We spent the first part of the session looking at different options, but in the end, I decided to read Albert Camus' "The Guest". Will spent the rest of the session reading the story. While his comprehension is very strong, it takes him a while to get through material on his own. We'll finish the story and discuss it tomorrow.
Will used a part of this session to complete his Chapter 18 Assessment on the French Revolution and Napoleon. We then previewed the next chapter on the European Industrial Revolution. Will explored UNESCO World Heritage Sites in England related to and dating to the Industrial Revolution, including the Derwent Valley Mills, Ironbridge Gorge, and the Blaevenon Industrial Landscape. We discussed how England, Scotland, and Ireland were changed forever by the Industrial Revolution (migration, political and social policies, technological advances). Additionally, we discussed the profound changes to the world as we shifted from a 11,000-year span of an agricultural-based society to an industrialized society.
We discussed last evening's homework on which Will did a nice job. Then we discussed/reviewed parallelograms and their diagonals. We worked a couple of example problems.
Today we continued working on grammar and how to write paragraphs. We reviewed sentence structure and the basic rules of grammar, and then we went over agreement and transitions. At the end of the session, I had Will write a paragraph about his California trip using all the rules we had covered. He wrote an almost perfect paragraph with great structure and flow. I'm very pleased with his effort.
