We worked three challenging problems on graph paper, each involving triangles and one involving a square. The problems involved translating instructions into graphical representations and then analyzing the graphs.

These problems were a bit on the abstract side, at list initially, and required some creative thought. Will did well with them and had to work hard. But he did.
We spent the session working problems from the textbook in which we determined coordinates in the xy pane of vertices on quadrilaterals.

Will had significant difficulty with the unstructured nature of the problems at first, but he overcame these and was sailing along quite well by the time we finished.
At the start of today's session I returned Will's graded Chapter 8 quiz (27/30) and went over it with him. Thereafter we reviewed for the midterm exam, scheduled for tomorrow. Last Thursday I gave WIll multiple topics to study, from which the exam questions would be drawn. Unfortunately, he did not take advantage of the opportunity this provided. Therefore, we reviewed all the study topics in class, discussing how each might be addressed in essay format. Additionally, at my suggestion, Will went through the textbook's table of contents, jotting down specific pages numbers corresponding to specific review topics, for study purposes. Finally, I gave Will the choice of proceeding with the exam tomorrow or putting it off until Thursday, 8/14. He elected to proceed with the exam tomorrow and vowed to study for it tonight.

Once again, Will did the lion's share of the work without help. His grasp of the material is impressive.
We reviewed weekend's homework assignment. We then launched into an exploration of the characteristics of two special quadrilaterals: trapezoids and kites. We used the white board extensively in our discussion. Then we spent the remainder of the time working problems in which we used the characteristics and algebra to find various parts of the quadrilaterals.

Will accomplished virtually all problem work on his own with very little input from me. His grasp of these concepts is excellent.
Today we discussed the causes and short and long term consequences and effects of the Industrial Revolution in Europe. Our graphic organizer included improvements in general living conditions, arms & military manufacturing, railroad creation, and the utilization of natural resources. In exploring the interconnected elements of the IR, we also touched on how factory work spurred a workers rights movement which later led to a clear delineation in economic policies and ideologies (Socialism, Communism, Capitalism).
Warm up by playing guitar as Will played drums.
Continue working on 16th note rhythms.
Continue working on jazz beat and comping exercises. Will did great. He was able to play a few of the exercises that were a little difficult for him during our last session. His practice last week really paid off.
Assignment
Practice assigned 16th note exercises and swing beat w/comping exercises.
