At the outset of today's session, I gave Will an opportunity to ask any questions he had concerning the material in Chapter 8. He asked a number of questions, which I answered. When Will said he was ready to proceed, I administered the Chapter 8 quiz. Following the quiz, I listed six topics that Will should review as he studies for the midterm exam next week. The exam essay questions will pertain to most, though not all, of the review topics. I made sure that Will wrote down the review topics so that he would not forget them. He appeared to appreciate this approach. The exam was to have taken place on Tues., 8/12, but has been postponed to Wed., 8/13, because Will was absent on Tues., 8/5, thereby setting the schedule back by one day (a minor delay).
We explored the possible relationships between and among the interior angles of quadrilateral in general and then moved on the parallelograms. We also discovered that diagonals of parallelograms bisect each other. We then worked some problems from the text.

Will is now very familiar with the characteristics of a broad selection of quadrilateral types and is able to use this knowledge to solve problems involving quadrilaterals. In one of the problems we analyzed a cubism painting to find rectangles, squares and trapezoids.
Today Will learned about Napoleon's rise to power, his political and military policies, and his downfall and exile. The concepts discussed include: the reasons the French people initially supported him (including economic and social policies), how he built an empire across Europe, the success of the British in opposing him, and his downfall (including the failed attempt to conquer Russia). We connected Napoleon's political and military policies to other events and leaders in American and World History, and we discussed how the French Revolution led to his rise.
Today we resumed and completed consideration of Chapter 8. Topics included multiple Supreme Court decisions under Chief Justice John Marshall that established the importance and supremacy of federal (central government) powers over state powers, the Monroe Doctrine of 1823, the Corrpupt Bargain of 1824, and the vindication of Andrew Jackson over John Qunicy Adams in the election of 1828. I reminded Will to prepare for tomorrow's quiz.
We started with a quick review of Chapter 5 and then I administered the test. In the remaining time after the test, we explored classification of quadrilaterals.
