Analise read the story, "Helpful Bugs" in her "Reading Comprehension" book. Activities included comparing and contrasting, and writing a question about something else she wants to know about the topics of ladybugs, aphids, bees, and honey. Previously, Analise came up with six topics that she would want to turn into a story. Today she chose the topic, "My Dogs." Her first paragraph was about what her dogs look like and their names. She began the second paragraph, which is telling about special tricks her dogs can do. She used her lists of descriptive words created on February 21, 2017. We reviewed the "long a" sound as in "a-e." We then read some words with "ai" and used each one in a sentence.
We created obstacle courses use the playground, practicing listening skills, movement and coordination and balance. We also created a treasure hunt using orange cones.
Analise made a little monster family to represent her own family. She chose five paint colors for each family member. We poured the paint onto the paper and Analise used a straw to blow the paint around. Then, she added a matching glitter to each monster. Once the monsters were made she painted grass and the sun around them. Using a marker, Analise drew arms and feet. Together, we glued google eyes onto the monsters. She was very thoughtful and detail-oriented with her work and it came out adorably.
Explain/give examples showing place value, ones and tens. Have Analise complete handouts identifying numbers in the one's place/ten's place. Then, using the number chart, complete the addition handout.

Analise completed all assignments today. Good session.
I read the book "Looking at Maps and Globes." As I read, Analise and I noted that a map is flat. We looked at how a "symbol" helps us read a map and noted that many "symbols" make up the "map key" or "legend." We talked about the directions, "north," "south," "east," and "west." Analise started at one "symbol" on the map and stated which direction to go in order to get to another "symbol." We looked at my map of the world and found America. We looked at a map of the United States of America and found Florida and Missouri. Analise noted that a globe is round. She located America on the globe. We identified the water and the land on the maps and the globe. Analise then completed a cut and paste activity, labeling "map," "land," and "water."
Based on the story, "Caps for Sale," Analise completed a "Listening Comprehension" activity. She drew a picture of what she heard and she wrote about the problem in the story. She read the next story "The Loose Tooth," in her "Reading Comprehension" book. Related activities included predicting what she thought would happen and telling what actually did happen, summarizing the beginning, middle, and end of the story, and answering multiple choice questions.
Math - add doubles, such as, 8 + 8, 7 + 7 etc. as well as mixed numbers, for example, 12 + 9,
8 + 4, etc. Also, solve number stories and illustrate.
Science - write facts about the Killer Whale. Watch avideo about how white blood cells travel to the site of infection and destroy it. Analise was amazed at this.

Lesson Comments
Analise worked very well...so cooperative and smart. It was a good session.
Analise read the Dolch words that she did not initially know automatically. She then read a level H fiction book titled, "Brainstorm Bear." Looking at the cover, Analise predicted what she thought the book would be about. She completed a "Reading Response" activity, asking her the title of the story, the names of the characters, the problem, and the solution. Analise shared her own original idea on how she would solve the problem in the story. We also talked about author and illustrator. I then read "Caps for Sale" to Analise. Tomorrow she will complete an activity on "Listening Comprehension."
