design fundamentals. Analise is currently working on using hr primary colors, red, blue, and yellow. She finished her painting today. She also started on a new "mosaic" project in the form of a turtle. She is using soup beans to show the use of "texture."
Analise reviewed facts pertaining to George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Please see "session summaries" from February 16th and February 17th. She completed Lincoln's log cabin using craft sticks. She added a penny to the roof of the log cabin. We began a look at maps and globes, identifying each and discussing similarities and differences.
On Friday, Analise read the Dolch sight words at the pre-primer, primer, and first grade levels. Today she read only those words that she did not know automatically on Friday. She used each word in an oral sentence. In her reading comprehension book, she read "Emma's Growing Flowers." Activities included sequencing, visualizing, and multiple choice comprehension questions. Analise also read "A Big Friend" in her book titled, "Mack." She completed work focusing on ending sounds, short vowel sounds, and using context to supply the correct word in a sentence. Analise came up with six different topics that she can choose from, in preparation for writing her own story. She also brainstormed descriptive words, adjectives, that she can use when writing. She suggested adjectives under the headings of *What does it look like? *What does it smell like? *What does it feel like? *What does it sound like? "What does it taste like? We took a look at the "long a" sound when an "e" is placed at the end of a word. She changed "short a" words, such as "cap," into a "long a" word, "cape."
Today Analise made chocolate chip cookies that we dipped in melted chocolate. She measured and mixed all of the ingredients together for the chocolate chip cookies. We then baked them for 11 minutes. Once they cooled Analise dipped the cookies into the chocolate. They turned out great!
Intro to yoga; basic yoga poses: "Little Yoga," "Sleepy Little Yoga"
Lesson Outline
Analise had an excellent first day in yoga class. We went through some yoga picture books and did the poses in the book. We talked about what yoga is and some of the great benefits of yoga. Some of the poses we did today were: butterfly, lion, cobra, king cobra, child, shoulder stand, rock-the-baby, and lotus flower. We ended class with some fun movements on the exercise balls and gymnastic equipment. Analise picked out the butterfly color sheet to take home.
Analise read "Ben's Magic Tricks." Activities included writing the main idea with two supporting details, figuring out the meaning of words used in context, and answering comprehension questions. Analise also read two stories in her reader "Mack." The first story, "The Big Tree," focused on comprehension, identifying the first sound in a given picture, and identifying the vowel sound in a given picture. She then read, "Mack Plays with Muffin." Activities included comprehension questions, rhymes, and the ending sound in given pictures.
Analise reviewed characteristics of a president's job and how these characteristics can relate to her own life (SEE FEBRUARY 16TH). She recalled where the president lives (Washington, D.C./White House). Analise recalled facts about George Washington as we looked through the book we read yesterday. She completed her three-cornered hat, just like the one Washington wore. We then read "Abraham Lincoln." Among other facts, Analise learned that Lincoln was born in a log cabin, was born on February 12th, was our 16th president, that he was known as "Honest Abe," and his picture can be found on a five dollar bill and a penny. Analise began creating a log cabin with craft sticks.
Analise reviewed the parts of her nonfiction book, "Blackbeard." She identified the table of contents, the glossary, the words in bold print, and the pictures with captions. She then wrote "four fun facts" about the story. She then read the next story in her reader, "Mack." After reading "Up a Tree," Analise answered multiple choice comprehension questions, and focused on the sound for "qu" and "long a," produced by adding a silent "e" to the end of a word. Analise read the Dolch words at the pre-primer level, the primer level, and the first grade level. Any words not recognized will be placed on a flashcard for easy review.
Analise and I talked earlier in the week about different options for arts and crafts and she chose to make starfish. We made a salt clay out of flour, salt, and water to make a moldable dough. Then, blue food coloring was added to make a pretty sea blue color. Analise formed the dough into round, flat circles before using a plastic knife to cut out triangles and make the arms. Then, she used a toothpick to make dots and give the starfish character. We put the starfish into the oven at a low temperature to harden. Analise was very patient and focused on doing a good job and in return they came out beautifully.
Analise and I engaged in a conversation about her upbringing and about her favorite things and people.
We practiced the letters of the alphabet, and made emphasis in the pronuntiation, months of the year, days of the week, today's date and weather.
Analise did a beautiful job reading the first page of the book "La Familia Bola", and then we finished reading the book together. She wrote making her best effort to write a paragraph in Spanish about her own talents.
We worked on an alphabet tridimensional puzzle and practiced Spanish words that began with chosen letters.
We developed a craft of a butterfly, she painted, glued, and colored it to her liking.
