Today, Hunter answered discussion questions on his at home reading of chapter 12, answering them all correctly. We read chapters 13 and 14 together, discussing vocabulary and themes.
Assignment
Read chapter 15. Review for vocabulary quiz next class.
Review and Quiz Ch. 2-5 Literal Equations and Formulas, 2-6 Ratios, Rates, and Conversions, 2-7 Solving Proportions, 2-8 Proportions and Similar Figures.
Today, Hunter worked on his vocabulary terms before his oral reading quiz. He earned a perfect score with his responses on the chapter 9 quiz, and we went on to discuss plot, characterization, setting, and conflicts in chapters 10 and 11. I'm impressed by his achievement on this oral quiz. We will test vocabulary on Monday.

I'm so proud of him! I think he is motivated by tests and competitions. I'll try to use that as educational "bait" from now on. :)
Watched a Crash Course video on ancient Egypt and reviewed what we previously learned and discussed. We will have a small oral quiz tomorrow, focusing on the contributions ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia brought to the modern world.
Today, Hunter was required to chose a planet, and conduct some calculations regarding this planet (equation of elliptical path if sun represented the center, volume, surface area, and his weight on this planet). Some of the information necessary to research for these calculations were the farthest and closest distance Uranus is from the Sun, its radius (distance from the core to the surface), and the gravitational acceleration in meters per second squared. We discussed the units based on calculations, and scientific notation to simplify very large numbers.
We began speaking of space exploration (to research upcoming space exploration is his homework), and started talking about Mars. We did some calculations to find the time it would take to fly to Mars traveling 20 km/sec (what was said to be the fastest traveling spacecraft).

Upcoming space exploration

Lesson Comments
Hunter is not the easiest to work with. To get him to do some work is a strain, along with his work being very unorganized and sloppy. He is constantly tired and putting his head down, in and out of falling asleep.
His foundation is not the strongest, along with his reading ability (he read some information to me out loud).
