Gracyn's lesson today was to be a review of the recognition of whole half, quarter, and eighth notes. The to recognize the signs for treble clef and bass clef. Then on to the symbols for all the different "rests" used in music.
Today Gracyn learned the song "Cabeza-ombros-rodillas-pies" which translates into Head, shoulder, knees and toes. She sang this song while learning the body parts. She found another version of the song and wanted to do this version instead of the one we had done.

Lesson Comments
Today I was the substitute teacher for Gracyn in her Spanish class.
Gracyn continued with the concept of adding multiple numbers together. Today, she practiced finding the sum for four addends. She added the four digits in the ones column, regrouped, and added the tens column. We discussed using her known strategies to add numbers together. Finally, Gracyn completed the chapter review which focused on word problems and three and four addend addition.
Gracyn began our lesson with a quick video on finding the sum for three addends. Writing the numbers in expanded form, drawing quick pictures of the tens and ones, and regrouping were all touched upon. Then, Gracyn solved many three double-digit addition problems. First, adding the ones column before regrouping and then adding the tens column to find the sum.
Gracyn and I read and discussed our Junie B. Jones book. She read 'Snake and Frog' again for fluency practice and wrote a summary of the story. We worked on adding -ed endings to regular past tense words.
Gracyn continued the unit on plant and animal needs today. We reviewed what animals need to survive and she did a word play game where she looked at a picture and filled in each item a pet hamster needed to survive. She also did another activity where she was given a need such as water and she had to fill in how she could meet that need, by drinking. She did this for all five needs. She watched a Magic School Bus episode on animal habitats and what animals need to survive.
We had some technical difficulties with Skype today but finally resolved them. Our lesson was on core and arm strengthening today. Gracyn challenged herself by doing 100 counts in the sphinx plank pose. We used the Yoga Journal magazine for ideas on power poses. Another difficult pose Gracyn did today was the chair pose and twisted chair. We ended class with the yoga egg game where Gracyn picked out eggs and had to do the pose that was written on a piece of paper inside the egg.
