Ocean life
Lesson Outline
Gracyn continued the unit on ocean life today. We began a lesson on sea turtles and went over the new vocabulary words reptile, migrate, flipper, and oviparous. She read a nonfiction article on sea turtles and how they are cold blooded and have to migrate to warm waters, how they lay eggs, and only one of 100 eggs survives to adulthood. She highlighted each vocabulary word as she found it in the reading and we discussed the meaning of each word. She also watched a video of baby turtles being rescued on the beach and a video on the life of the sea turtle and how many obstacles it has to overcome to become an adult.

Wants vs Needs
Lesson Outline
Today Gracyn and I continued her economics unit. We began by reviewing wants versus needs. We discussed and made a list comparing wants versus needs and how sometimes these change. For example, a computer may have started out as a want, but changed to a need when she began Skype school. We moved on to discuss spenders versus savers. We read about other children, and how they save and spend their money. We finished by completing a crossword puzzle, to check Gracyn’s understand of these concepts.
