Gracyn and I reviewed her classroom objects to start the class. Then, she hung up her classroom poster. Next, Gracyn cut out all of her classroom words and she taped them to the actual classroom objects to label them.
Today Gracyn and I read 2 stories. The first one (which she requested) is called "The Three Little Javelinas" by Susan Lowell. It's a twist on "The Three Little Pigs Story. She really likes this book. The second book we read is called "Little Red Riding Hood". She asked many questions about what was happening in the book and luckily it has a happy ending!! She asked me if I would do some Sign Language with her so we spent time on that as well. (She was asking me how to sign certain signs.)
Gracyn wanted to take her spelling test today! She said she was ready. She got all of the words correct except the word "pink." She was able to correct her mistake though. We completed her morning work today and she wrote about her mom and dad in writing. We did a fun worksheet that used the digraphs "th, wh, ch, sh, and ph." The "ph" blend was the most challenging but she got it the next time. We reviewed adjectives. She had to come up with different adjectives for pictures. She used words like the "buzzing" bee, the "itsy bitsy" spider, and the "little" chick. I was so proud of how well she did with adjectives. She was very creative! She read a Raz Kids level D story on animals and answered the comprehension questions correctly. We looked up interesting butterflies that live in the rain forest today. They had the most beautiful wings!
Gracyn wanted to show me her new toy that was a Koala family produce and fish market. I turned it into a nutrition lesson as she showed me the different fruits and vegetables. We then used the "Girls Yoga Book" for our yoga portion of class. We focused on Warrior poses, Strong body. We then added downward dog, pigeon, rock the baby (hip openers), and cobra for a back stretch. We read parts of the book that went along with the poses.
Assignment
If Gracyn wants to do some "hooping" in class, she will need a hoop (Target has them).
Gracyn and I learned about time today. We used the clock and flash cards. (She had some also.) We completed all of Lesson 15-3 - telling time, the half hour, and reading a clock. She was very good at this by the end of the class.
Review all the concepts learned in Chapter 14 of the first grade math book. Take chapter 14 test on measurement.
Read a story- "Math Curse" by Jon Scieszka.
Math Skype lesson. Student has a copy of the 1st grade math book so she can work together with teacher on Skype lessons. Unit 14 of the 1st grade book measurement. Lesson 14-longest and shortest - looking at groups of three pictures decide which is the longest of the group and which is the shortest. Looking at groups of three pictures - place them in order of which one weighs the most and the least.
Today in writing Gracyn had to think of a topic and then write three sentences to describe and support her topic. I modeled the paragraph first with talking about why I love the beach. Gracyn's paragraph was about her mom. She wrote that she loves her mom because she is pretty, she is amazing, and because she takes care of her. She used the words first, next, and last to begin each describing sentence. In Bible we learned about Joseph. He was faithful to God and even though his brothers sold him because they were jealous, God was with Joseph and used him. In Science we watched a movie about different types of butterflies. We are enjoying our unit of butterflies this week!
Gracyn began her day by writing her spelling words. We completed her morning work and she wrote about her daddy. We completed a fun word puzzle that had words that described spring. We reviewed what a noun and an adjective is and she had read words and put them in the right category as a noun or adjective. In reading she read a book in Raz Kids and answered the comprehension questions correctly.
