Gracyn completed her morning work and writing activity. Then we watched a video on recycling. We saw what happens to recycled materials like paper, boxes, cans, glass, and plastic. It was a really cool video. We completed her Earth Day worksheet where she had to list things she could reduce (water when brushing her teeth), reuse (cups), recycle (cans and water bottles), and ways to help the Earth (turn off TV). We read two books in Raz Kids to make up for yesterday's Skype. We ended the day in Bible learning about Moses.
Today Gracyn and I watched some videos of Gabby Douglas and some collegiate gymnasts while she finished her lunch. When she was done we warmed up her muscles and did some stretching. We then continued our "ABC's of Gymnastics" a game where we try to come up with a gymnastics skill for each letter of the alphabet. Right now we are at letter "m".
Today Gracyn and I worked on math flash cards. We are working on getting faster with her addition facts. We also worked on measuring different objects using cm and inches.
Gracyn wrote a four sentence informational paragraph today. She wrote about how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. She used the words first, next, and last in her paragraph. She did a great job and I am very proud of her writing.
Gracyn began her day by writing her spelling words. Next we completed her morning work together. In writing she had to write about something that makes her happy. She wrote that watching her daddy play baseball makes her most happy.
We had a little trouble with Skype. So our session was a little short.
ABC Yoga book; practice poses; using strap for stretches; yoga game
Lesson Outline
We picked out different letters of the ABC Yoga book and practiced the poses. Gracyn then got a belt and used it as a strap for leg stretches. She also tried several times to get into lotus pose, by first warming up with "rock the baby" pose. She is able to get into 1/2 lotus, but is working on getting into full lotus. I then took a book with stick figures of poses and we played a guessing game of the poses. Gracyn looked at the picture and told me what pose she saw. Gracyn has an excellent knowledge and recognition of poses.
Assignment
Gracyn will look in her garage for any equipment she can use in class; i.e. jump rope, hula hoop, etc. I mentioned to her that they usually sell hula hoops in Target.
Today Gracyn reviewed her spelling words. We completed her morning work and she wrote about something she liked and used the word and in the sentence. She wrote I like my mom and my dad. In science we explored our Earth in honor of Earth Day on Friday. We watched a film on the Earth and then filled out a fact sheet. In Bible we watched the Bible movie on Moses!
Today Gracyn and I reviewed her new spelling words and she wrote them once. Then we completed her morning worksheet and her daily writing. Today she wrote about her favorite breakfast food...bacon of course! In Science we learned about Earth Day and how we can help keep the world around us nice. We colored a cute book together. In Bible we watched a short movie about the Nativity. During the movie she enjoyed an apple...and lost her first tooth! We were so excited! Of course we had to share the news with everyone! We also made a card to leave behind for the tooth fairy.
Today, we did a reading and matching exercise with our clothing words. We also discussed the different types of clothing that we both were wearing. Next, Gracyn completed a cut and paste matching exercise with the vocabulary. Last, she worked on a word reveal exercise.
Math Skype lesson. Student has a copy of the 1st grade math book so she can work together with teacher on Skype lessons. Gracyn is currently working on Unit 14 of the 1st grade book and is practicing measurement and estimating with inches, feet, centimeters, cups, gallons and other units of measure.
