We sang through some Disney songs. Sam is a little sick today but I encouraged her to do her best and not be self-critical! (She was getting frustrated that her voice wasn't at its full capacity!) We also explored some more Newsies literature and she is ready to begin a new piece from this musical the next time we meet :)
Sam worked through a lesson on an additional use of the semicolon, completed examples, then again put her theatrical side to use and we video taped her doing the lesson. After that, we read aloud from Thea Stilton and Sam predicted, inferred, summarized, and evaluated the portion read.
Sam worked through a lesson on semicolons and practice sentences for editing. Then to assess her knowledge she made a teaching video on a school iPad "Sam's Word Corner" and explained one of the two main uses for semicolons. She did a great job and had fun. Hoping to tie in her love of theater with language arts class as much as possible.

Invertebrates -
Today Samantha continued her project designed to illustrate the differences between the invertebrates. She used art paper and made sections for each group: sponges, cnidarians, worms, mollusks, arthropods, and echinoderms. She listed the two or three main defining characteristics for each group and started to paste the pictures she collected yesterday, in the appropriate group. Homework: in prep for next week’s oral presentation, I tasked Samantha with researching the flag, capital, and food of Sweden.

Invertebrates -
Today Samantha was tasked with finding pictures of invertebrates from a group of natural history magazines. When she found one, she cut it out and made a pile for each of the six groups of invertebrates: sponges, cnidarians, worms, mollusks, arthropods, and echinoderms. While we looked for pictures, we discussed the defining characteristics of each group. For example: Cnidarians are the anemones, jellies, and corals; all of which have stingers. Mollusks all have shells, and arthropods include the insects, Echinoderms are the star fish and have ‘star-skin’.
Today Sam and I talked about making a pattern for a skirt that she saw in the musical Newsies. She would like it to be white with purple polkadots. We took some measurements and are going to start working on the pattern next class.
Today we began, as usual, with our days of the week song in Spanish. Next, we played a board game to review the vocabulary and pronunciation. Last, Sam took her unit quiz. She did very well! She scored a 103 A+! Great Job!
design fundamentals. creating with "warm" colors and "cool" colors from the color wheel. Samantha finished her two projects and worked on a collage from the musical "Newsies."
