Sam started class reviewing again what the homework is, written in her agenda. Then she began reading by predicting what today's reading will be about. She also reviewed and studied vocabulary from Thea Stilton and purposefully sought the words during reading. Then we completed daily team reading and focused more on the nonfiction pages. At the end of class, Sam opted to complete her daily reflection page for homework. I sent home a copy of the sentence frames to aid in her writing.

Step 1 Post Test
Lesson Outline
The session began with a review of selected words (both real, nonsense and sight words). Samantha read each of the sections three times to ensure her ability to decode these words. For the charting part of the post test Samantha read 14/15 real words and 14/15 nonsense words accurately. For the written part of the post test she spelled 13/15 real words and 5/5 nonsense words correctly. Word cards were made for the three sight words she is currently learning. For the final part of the session the ng and nk welded sounds were introduced.

Lesson Outline
Sam started class with a quick assessment to show mastery of spelling on her first sight word spelling list, she earned 100%. Then she had an introduction to sentence frames. I posted four pages of sentence frames on her bulletin board to be used each day in correspondence with reading reflection. Each offers multiple ways to express in writing: prediction, summarization, inferring and evaluating. These sentence frames helped boost the level of writing she produced in class today. She read from her current novel and reflected in writing on her daily sheet. At the end of class, she used 8 minutes to research a recipe for her Swedish Holiday project and will post on her blog tomorrow.
