World History -
Aubrey opened the world history page and we addressed the study guide for this unit. I read the first question on the study sheet (name three things that are different in modern Europe) and Aubrey was unsure how to answer the question. We searched her on-line text and found the area that covered the subject. I had her read the paragraph and tell me what she read. She suggested that question was too vague, the task too hard, and the assignment too difficult to understand. I asked her about the EURO and she admitted it was one thing that is different in modern Europe. I asked her to tell me another, but she was un- able or un-willing to try. We had a discussion about how important the test tomorrow is for her success in this class. She was adamant and tearful, that she was unable to address this subject. I suggested using another text, but she decided that was impossible. I called her mother and gave her some time to collect herself. I attempted to get her interested in the biology class, but she had decided that show was done for the day.

World History -
Aubrey and I explored some textbooks that may aid her in understanding the subjects she is facing in her current courses of English 1 and World History. We examined the areas where she is struggling and discussed what she finds confusing. We then looked up her course descriptions and viewed the study guides that accompany each lesson. She has before now ignored these guides, so we printed them out and I tasked her with finding the answers to the guide questions. We decided she should start with World History and we will work on the guides together tomorrow. Homework: Start working on World History study guide.

English-
Aubrey worked on her English assignment, in which she was to research two possible career opportunities and answer questions about each. Questions included pay potential, education required and advancement possibilities. She was also tasked with writing a job application. Once she had completed the assignment, I congratulated her for doing so well. We talked a bit about her progress with virtual school, and how she perceives her progress. She has been keeping up with the class assignments and completing the tests in good time for all three classes. Homework: Keep up the good work!

Lesson Comments
It is extremely difficult for Aubrey to concentrate with the new student in the adjacent classroom. The sound travels between the rooms very well, and the distraction is unavoidable.

Aubrey tackled the section pre-test on cell theory and organization. She needed only slight encouragement and worked through the tough aspects of this task. She then started the assignment on biological organization.
