Biology -
Aubrey read the text for her first session for Biology, and then examined her assignment. She was tasked with choosing four scientists (from a list) and prepare a report covering a list of facts about each. Her report should be presented as a slideshow, an interactive timeline, or a web page. I had Aubrey look up each of the proposed choices, and we examined who these esteemed gentlemen were. I helped her choose four, and we started by finding the required information on the first. We recorded the information into her science notebook. We then checked out the second, and recorded the information as we did the first. As class time was finished, I suggested she find the same information for the remaining two scientists on the list by herself. I will assist her with organizing these data forms tomorrow. HOMEWORK: complete research of selected scientists.

Note: Aubrey will need to have the office suite software on her computer (WORD, PowerPoint, Excel) She absolutely needs these to complete her work. She will also require some instruction on how to use PowerPoint to make a slideshow for this current assignment.

Start up and class pre-preparation -
Aubrey has been given class assignment so she is ready to start FLVS. To start any class she was directed to watch a video showing how each class is organized, what is expected from the student, and how to access the necessary materials for the subject. She watched her Biology I video, and was then directed to contact her FLVS instructor to accept her classroom assignment. She must have her parents and some paperwork with her when she speaks directly to the instructor, so she will do this as homework. She was not allowed to view her course assignments prior to this direct contact. We moved on and Aubrey watched the video for English I. Again she was given the information she needs to complete this course, and directed to make contact with the instructor to accept her place in class. We did review the list of books, from which she must choose one to read for class. She was curious how long the books were, so we did research and identified how many pages each of the contenders filled, and read reviews of the story to see if any caught her interest. Homework: watch the World History video, and contact all teachers before our next meeting.

None -
Aubrey had not yet verified her enrollment in FLVS, at the start of our class.
We discussed her new program and how we will work together to address any issues she has with her studies. She played an online game while she waited for her verification of enrollment. She received her notice, and was told she is awaiting classroom assignment. I looked up how long assignment can take and was surprised to learn this can take weeks. We will address her course assignments, and see what we can accomplish, while she awaits notification from FLVS.
We explored several geometry games including Run (Navigating through a 3-D maze of geometric shapes), Bloxorz (Rolling a 1x1x2 block over various configurations of plates to achieve a goal), Cubefield (Navigating around polygons of different shapes.), and World's Hardest Game (Navigating a block through moving obstacles requiring judging speed and distance.)
