Memorial Day
Lesson Outline
Danny looked in his social studies notebook and he reviewed the holiday "Veterans Day," which he studied in November. He refreshed his memory regarding the army, navy, air force, coast guard, and marines. He recollected that Veterans Day is to honor all those who served in the United States military. Memorial Day honors those who died while in military service. We read the book, "Memorial Day" by Sally Speer Leber. Danny then assembled his own take-home book about Memorial Day. He colored each page and read the story. He compared and contrasted Veterans Day and Memorial Day.

Equal Parts
Lesson Outline
Danny and I continued to work with 2-dimensional shapes and how to divide them equally into equal parts. We discussed the difference between halves, thirds, and fourths before Danny wrote the number of equal parts in shown whole shapes. Then, he circled shapes that showed equal parts and drew lines to show equal parts of a whole. Next, Danny took the mid-chapter checkpoint quiz in which he circled objects that matched 3-D shape names, wrote the number of sides and vertices of 2-D shapes, and used clues to find shapes with the correct number of angles. We finished with a 2-step daily word problem and review problems on fact families, 2-digit addition and subtraction, place value, and finding the missing operation to make equations true.
