Danny started the lesson playing Quick Drill in Reverse. He practiced all the vowels, He practiced the digraphs: th, sh, ch, ck, and the consonants: n,p,j,v,h. Danny practiced the welded sounds ank, ang, ung, onk, unk, ing. He still has a confusion between "th" and "f." It takes several repetitions and reminders of the sound production to get him to pair the right letter with the right sound. We will keep reviewing this. Danny read the words sells, shells, and banks for review. He identified the base word and suffix. He practiced the words with blends: grips, flips, frogs, plugs, and bands. Danny practiced the sight words: where and which using colorful markers on the whiteboard. Danny then took his dictation test. He needs a great deal of repetition of the sentence to remember what he is writing. Danny did write all sentences successfully and analyzed them. He was also able to apply a question mark correctly. Danny was charted on the nonsense words for 2.2 today also, because he showed readiness and I wanted to move him up a lesson for the new year. Danny will start in Book 2, Lesson 3. This is very good progress since I started him on Book 1, Lesson 3 in February. Danny loves the book Because of Winn Dixie. I hope he will continue to read it over the summer. It has been great working with Danny.

Lesson Comments
Danny is a very affable and polite student who is working very hard. He does have difficulty paying attention sometimes. I think this dreamy behavior is becoming less over time working on the Wilson program with me.
Danny began with a lesson on cvc-e syllable words. We discussed the consonant-vowel-consonant combination with a silent e and how to identify it in a word. When given a word with this combination, he clapped out the syllables, circled the vowels, and then marked up the cvc-e combination. He did a cut and paste word sort with short u, long u (cvc-e), ui, and oo. He cut out words with these sounds and then pasted them under the correct heading. He also wrote each word under the correct sound. He read a story in his reading book called "Wolf, Wolf" . This is the same story as "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" but told from the wolf's perspective. After reading, he compared and contrasted the two stories.
Danny participated in the Batt School graduation and watched two of his schoolmates graduate. After graduation he helped other classmates pack their rooms for the end of the year.
Danny started his lesson reviewing the vowels and sounds. He practiced consonants and digraphs: ch, z, x, qu, v, wh, f, and s. He practiced welded sounds: am, unk, all, onk, ink, ank, ang, ong, ing, ung. Danny read review words from magnetic letters: flaps, pests, plugs. Danny answered questions about base word and suffix. He read bled, press, steps, vests, and flags. Danny identified base word and suffix as well as blends. A definition of a blend was reviewed. Danny played a game with a stack of words from 2.2. He had to find words with digraph blend, blend, base word and suffix. Danny was charted using p. 21. He read all the words correctly scoring 15/15. Danny started sentence reading. Tomorrow we will finish this lesson. Good work!
Danny continued learning about habitats today. We discussed the grasslands and that they are found in Africa and he found Africa on his map. We talked about what animals he would see if he went on a safari and he made predictions about the animals. We read a passage on the grasslands and the environment and animals. He did a cut and paste activity where he matched animals such as a black mamba, elephant, cheetah, hippo, and giraffe to their names and he challenged himself to remember the animals and write them on a graphic organizer without looking at the pictures.
