Teddy completed his interactive calendar. He read and discussed his vocabulary words. He put together his daily sentence puzzle. He listened to the story "The Mitten," by Jan Brett. He colored the main characters, discussed the story details, and then put the story characters in the proper sequence.
Chris completed the lab "Seeds of Thought" where he examined a pine cone, apple, pine cone seeds and apple seeds. He recorded his observations and diagrammed the seeds. He answered the follow-up questions.
Libby completed her interactive calendar. She read and discussed her vocabulary words. She put together her daily sentence puzzle. She listened to a video about a cactus plant. We discussed the traits a cactus plant needs to survive in the desert. We switched the wires attached to the motor of her bubble machine and realized that we had them connected wrong. Now, the bubble machine blows the air in the correct direction.
Aiden completed the follow-up questions for the lab "Light and Matter." He recorded the temperature change of a thermometer with a flashlight shining on it.
Aiden completed the lab "How Light Travels" where he investigated how a beam of light reflects off a mirror, transmits through a beaker of water and empty milk jug, and heats up a thermometer. He recorded his data.
This afternoon, Libby and I looked over a Science Spin scholastic reader. We looked at pictures and read about raccoons. Libby participated in a guided reading exercise and read that they steal food at night. We noted that with their masks, they actually look like little thieves. We asked a question whether raccoons work alone but learned they work in groups. Libby examined a map in the Scholastic activity sheet and wrote down the number of raccoons in each group noted, and she then added the sums together to fill in a graph. We ended the session watching an academic video about the role of scientists.

Chris watched a video on a hibiscus flower dissection. We discussed the male and female anatomy. He wrote a claim "plants reproduce and grow by..." He completed the Lesson 2 Launch "Seeing a Flower." We discussed how other, non-flowering plants also reproduce by making seeds, like pine trees. He watched a time-lapse video of a pine cone seed germinating and growing.
Aiden completed the lab "Lights Out" where he investigated how light travels from a flashlight onto the floor, reflects off a wooden block, and travels through the teeth of a comb. He answered the follow-up questions.
