Today Charlie started class by preheating the oven to 225 degrees. Next, he separated 5 egg whites. Using the KitchenAid mixer with the whisk attachment Charlie started beating the egg whites. He gradually added 1 cup of sugar and 1/2 teaspoons of cream of tartar. Charlie continued whisking the eggs for another 10 minutes. We knew the cookies were ready for the baking sheet when they held a peak. Charlie piped the meringue ghosts into cookies and then baked them for 45 minutes.

Today in baking, Arianna made fun pie pops. She began by rolling out pie crusts before using flower shaped cookie cutters to cut flower shapes into the dough. Then, the shapes were arranged on a parchment-lined baking sheet. An egg was cracked, beaten, and lightly brushed onto the dough and a lollipop stick was gently pressed into each one. In the center of each flower, a square of chocolate and mini marshmallows were placed before being covered with another flower shaped piece of dough. The dough was pinched together and pressed with a fork to completely seal the edges which made it look like petals. They were baked in a 350 degree oven for 20 minutes. While waiting, we took a nice walk outside looking at the plants.

We used ready made pie crusts and a flower shaped coolie cutter to cut out flower shapes from the pie crust. We brushed each of the shapes with a beaten egg. We then pressed a Lolly Pop stick onto half of the shapes before putting pieces of Hershey's Milk Chocolate Bar and a few mini marshmallows on the shape. Another piece of pie dough was placed over the chocolate and marshmallows. We used our fingers to stretch and pinch the dough, then a fork to crimp and seal the edges. We baked them for 20-25 minutes in a 350 F oven.
