This morning's lesson focused on counting patterns within 100. Remington wrote the missing numbers in a hundreds chart while recognizing the patterns within each row and column. Then, he used mini-hundreds charts to create wall references on skip counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s to help him skip count by different amounts and start counting from different amounts.
Remington had a very productive day today. He completed 25 timed basic addition facts on adding 1 and he worked on neatly tracing and properly writing the numbers 1 through 20. Our lesson looked at how to use patterns with groups of 10 and single items to help problem solve with real world examples. Remington finished with daily review questions on skip counting by 2, reading number words, and finding the missing addend of basic addition facts.
This morning, we continued to work on representing numbers in different ways. Remington used base ten blocks to show 2-digit numbers as tens and ones with amounts more than 10. Then, he exchanged groups of 10 ones for tens sticks and wrote the 2-digit numbers in expanded form. Finally, Remington was given a 5-minute timed basic facts page on adding one. He verbally gave the answers but was resistant to writing the answers and did not complete the assignment.
Today, we began with an example on the whiteboard on representing a 2-digit number in standard, expanded, and word form, as well as with base ten blocks. Remington was also given a number word wall reference and shown how to find the word form of numbers. Then, he played a matching game to reinforce the lesson, using flashcards to match 2-digit numbers with all of their different ways. Finally, Remington completed the lesson's practice problems and spiral review questions.
