We completed sections on sequence and series, and infinite sequence and series. This brought us to a discussion of compound interest. We also worked with the finance program of the calculator.
We worked on the three types of functions that can be graphed on the calculator. polar equation, parametric and algebraic functions. Chase had a chance to see the variety of functions that can be graphed.
We worked on two activities solving exponential equations requiring logarithmic equations and solving right triangles for all missing angles and sides.

Aquaponics-
Chase and I worked on getting the aquarium ready for her beta fish. After observing some living things swimming in the rainwater I collected for this project, Chase decided to use tap water in the tank. We loaded the aquarium with tap water, and treated it to neutralize the pH, chlorine level, nitrogen level, and other chemical imbalances’. We connected the pump and checked it worked well, and also the tank lights. We then examined the living creatures from the rainwater, using the binocular microscope. I used the remaining time to quiz Chase with some sample APES test questions.
Chase read a story and responded to questions asked about the story. After we were done with the assignment, we went outside and she worked on her Spanish journal.
25 minutes - Chase added to her journal almost entirely alone. Her command of Spanish sentences regarding routine events, using basic vocabulary words, has imporved a lot.
25 minutes - our grammar review today was time.
5 minute - break
65 minutes - Chase has shown a strong interest in the story we are now reading. We covered chapters 2,3 and 4. She read each chapter in Spanish and translated into English. Her translation is more fluid. We noted new vocabulary and I identified important grammar. She answered the open-ended questions at the end of each chapter with ease. Chase is doing very well.

Aquaponics-
Chase and I worked at setting up an aquaponics system for her beta fish. First we had to clean the aquarium and all fittings, gravel, pump, and any décor she had chosen. We assembled the entire system and placed it in her room. We discussed how to proceed, and decided to use rainwater to fill the aquarium. She also wants to explore using flowering plants or maybe the philodendron plant that is in need of a new planter. We then examined sample APES test questions as practice for the upcoming exam. Homework: review test questions.

AP Environmental Science:
Oceans, Continents and Seas-
Chase completed a test on the oceans and continents. She was tasked with labeling a map, giving the names of the five oceans and seven continents. We discussed what is meant by the ‘seven seas’. She was then tasked with identifying several countries, and marking the countries with the highest biodiversity. Finally we examined how natural resources are mapped. Chase was tasked with identifying the natural resources from a map of the Amazon Basins. We then examined the maps I had made of critical habitats in the Turks and Caicos, paying close attention to areas of cultural importance and potential environmental loss.
Journal; sentence structure review; Read chapter 2 of new story: Una Guitarra Misteriosa
Lesson Outline
30 minutes - Journal - Chase has become quite accustomed to making entries in Spanish. Except for an occasional word, she does quite well at writing sentences regarding what is occuring in her life. She spoke about her Spring break experience at visiting her chosen college for orientation.
30 minutes - Today we went over sentence structure and practiced with some unfamiliar vocabulary.
5 minute break
55 minutes - We continued reading in Spanish, translating, identifying vocabulary (by continuing the word bank), and going over grammar structures as they occur in the story: La Guitarra Misteriosa. At the end of each chapter, there are open-ended questions. Chase did well answering those questions.
