PJ took his Spelling and Wordly Wise tests. We went over his assignment from "To Kill a Mockingbird." He has been assigned his next assignment Chapter 15-17 due Sept. 9th. He read and answered questions in writing for the story, "Telling Tales."

Teddy took his spelling test and a test over knowledge and understanding of how to write a sentence. He reread both of his stories from Unit 1, "Jack Can" and "Nat and Sam." He completed a reading comprehension activity and wrote written answers to the questions over the story "Dad and I." He worked on several activities learning how to write sentences correctly. He finished an activity pertaining to the (at) family.

Libby completed her interactive calendar. She reviewed what a sentence was and worked on activities demonstrating her understanding of how a sentence should be written. She took her spelling test and her test over sentences. She recounted and wrote down story details from the story "Jack Can." She completed and activity pertaining to the (at) family.

We went over PJ's spelling homework. He read and discussed today's stories, "The Automation Paradox, and "Heads Up Humans." We examined what a paradox is, and how the title of this story reflects the meaning of the word. These two stories present differing arguments about the impact of technology on jobs. We discussed how they supported their claims with evidence.

Pj wrote his spelling words and their definitions. He learned some history about Elizabeth Barrett Browning and her "Sonnet 43." The poem we read and discussed today, "Interflora," was written by Susan Hamlyn as a modern-day riff on Barrett's "Sonnet 43." We compared and contrasted the two poems. He completed an activity identifying completed predicates and complete subjects.

He learned what a sentence is, and wrote the definition into his rule book. He completed several activities pertaining to recognizing a sentence. He read "Sam Can" again and looked for key details in the story. He read a little booklet about a cat named Jack and identified several key details in the story and wrote them down. He read a new story about a boy named Nat who took his teddy bear to school. He discussed the main idea and story details.

Libby reviewed and practiced the short vowel sounds for a,e,i,o, and u. She read and practiced writing her spelling words 3xeach, put them in ABC order, and wrote a sentence for the first 4 words. She learned about what a sentence is and wrote the definition into her rule book.

Pj reviewed and explained his answers to questions from his "To Kill a Mockingbird," assignment. He copied down questions from Chapter 12-14 of, "To Kill a Mockingbird," They are due Friday, Sept.5th. He read and discussed his new Spelling and Wordly Wise words and their meanings. He completed several activities using his Spelling and Wordly Wise words in context.
