Charlie and I reviewed his shapes and did many exercises to help him remember.
We played for the first time "matching". He was good about using only Spanish words
while playing, and he learned other phrases while playing like: I won! / I have ## points./ You have # points. / My turn/ another time / and also we reviewed all the colors . He also learned the fork, spoon, knife, and napkin vocab.
In today's session Charlie will design a template on a 8.5 x 11 paper, of 4, 2x2 squares. He will use that layout to create designs. I will have Charlie look up designs for references. These will be used as a rough draft with the final version to be completed in a digital application such as Photoshop.
Today we will warm up using the plank yoga position to strengthen the upper body while practicing our flexibility.
We did core strengthening exercises.
We executed fighting drills with the body shield, and introduced the fundamentals of the jiu Jitsu hand grab.
We completed the class with a meditation.
Charlie did not start the "Kindness Letter" that was left for him in the previous class, so he wrote two letters today. He was instructed on proper rules regarding punctuation and formatting for informal letters during this time and we also worked on other basic grammatical correctness within his writing. After that, I gave Charlie 10 vocabulary words which he defined. He began to draw cartoons and write sentences that properly conveyed the meaning of each word. He had 3 words left to complete at the end of the day, so that is his homework due 5/30.
Charlie read The Story of Keesh during the first half of class in preparation for questions regarding the story. He was instructed to complete the questions after lunch and begin writing a "Kindness Letter" .
I worked with Charlie on word problems about fractions. The problems required the student to identify what fraction was represented in the problem. I then instructed him to use online games to practice addition and subtraction of integers to obtain a given target value. Using the same online math game, he practiced multiplication of single digit numbers. There was no assignment. .

Charlie was unable to keep up with the time limit for solving addition and subtraction of integer problems. This indicated to me that he needs to continue with the online games.

I worked with Charlie to calculate mean, median, and mode. He said he didn't recall seeing this topic before in school. We also worked with metric conversions and some of the English system equivalents. I told him how metric units such as Angstoms and nanometers are used at the atomic level. We also discussed nanotechnology. There was no assignment.

Charlie doesn't seem to have much of an attention span other than computer searches that he initiates. He gets off task easily so I can't make much progress in any one topic.

Charlie also examined the school butterfly garden and found several Monarch caterpillars on the Milkweed in various stages of their life cycle.

Lesson Comments
Charlie was very distracted during today's lesson and it was difficult to get him to stay in one place. He doesn't seem to be interested in gardening or plants. He shows a lot of interest in constructing objects and making things. I'll figure out a building project for next week. He also started watching South Park on his laptop. I spoke with Kelli about it.
