Lesson Outline
GT and I began lesson three in his vocabulary book. We discussed ten new words and studied their pronunciations. We also completed two activities requiring GT to use the words correctly in the context of sentences and paragraphs. We then continued our study of the novel. We read and annotated a section. GT will choose a meaningful quote and write a double journal entry using correct MLA citation.
Abby and I discussed the chapters that she had read for homework. We used the accompanying study guide questions as a springboard for our discussion. We then continued to read and annotate the text for understanding and author's purpose. Abby will read additional chapters and answer study guide questions for homework.

Abby will write a double journal entry containing an in-text citation reacting to the sections that we have read.Abby and I discussed the annotations we each made while reading. From her annotations Abby chose her quotes for her double journal entries. Abby will read several chapters for homework tonight.
Taylor and I used the writing process to brainstorm ideas for some very brief college essays. We drafted. We revised--realizing that this skill deals with word choice, style and content. Then we edited--realizing this deals with spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

We continued with our study of the novel. GT shared his double journal entry that he had written for homework. We read and had an excellent discussion on the plot and the characters. We then began reading the short story "A Woman's Secret" by Guy de Maupassant (from the website CommonLit).
We are going to compare the similarities of the short story to the novel. We are going to compare the author's use of letters to convey important events/meanings in both the short story and novel.

We read and discussed the next section. We defined unknown vocabulary using context clues. We also talked about the author's use of point of view. We discussed plot development. GT chose a quote from the section that we had just read and wrote his response composing a double journal entry with proper MLA citation.
