Lesson Outline
Abby and I continued our study of the novel. It is an example of informational text because it is a true story. We have a lot of good discussion about the content. We use the study guide questions as a springboard for our discussion. Abby also chooses a quote for each section and writes a double journal entry explaining her interpretation of the quote. We also reviewed correct MLA in text citation. Abby will write a double journal entry for homework based on the section we
completed this afternoon.

GT and I completed the final two activities for lesson 2 in the vocabulary book. GT did quite well. We then continued our study of the novel. GT had read over the weekend, so we discussed what he had read, paying special attention to the author's use of point of view. We then continued reading and discussing. He will choose his textual evidence for his double journal entry and begin writing his entry for homework.

Lesson Outline
We talked about what Abby's goals for the Journalism class. Then we continued our study of the novel. We read the next section. We talked about author's purpose. We discussed the novel being an example of a informational text. We also discussed the meaning of the title. Abby will write her double journal entry for homework.

GT and I continued our study of the novel. GT spent two weeks this summer in England and the novel is set in Swindon, so he adds some interesting commentary. We use the study guide questions as a springboard for our discussion. GT also wrote his double journal entry as a response to the section that we read. We also discussed how the double journal entries complete with quotes will be helpful when we write the final analysis of the novel. Then GT and I completed lesson 2 in the vocabulary book. I introduced the words, and GT completed the application activities that followed. He does quite well with the advanced level vocabulary.

Alexa and I worked on writing her college essay. Alexa already had an outline. We used that as the starting point. We talked through her points. We embellished with details and examples. Then we went back and edited for word choice and punctuation. We are not finished, but the essay is really coming along well.

Abby and I began the introduction to the novel. I had Abby define the word memoir. We discussed how this novel is listed as informational text because it is the author's true account of what happened to her; it is her story. We previewed the study guide and the discussion questions.

Sadlier Vocabulary and Booktalks
Lesson Outline
Abby and I talked about the novel that she is currently reading. She does not enjoy it at all and wants to abandon it for another work of literature. We decided on THE GLASS CASTLE. We then completed several vocabulary lessons. We talked about the new words. We used them in sentences; we read them in context. We then completed several activities that require the use of the high level vocabulary in different forms in different contexts. Abby will complete two exercises that we didn't finish for homework.
