Lesson Outline
Matthew started by working on his assignments. He worked on several English assignments.
He was unable to finish one of his assignments as his laptop was dead. We arranged to send his charger home with his sister.
We then discussed the article that Matthew read regarding memorization techniques. We gave specific examples of each of the techniques. We will create a visual reminder of them to hang in Matthew's class. We identified spatial thinking as an area of potential growth.
Lastly, we discussed possible mentors to contact as we move forward with Matthew's golf course design project. We looked up members of the ASGCA who are local to our area and participate in new development.
Assignment
Finish English assignment when he has computer charger
Spencer benefited from encouragement and prompting to complete his language arts homework. He read a brief passage and then answered questions that required him to look back in the text. Additionally, given a story, he was tasked with first identifying and highlighting the words that contained ch and then reading the story. He worked on his math homework confidently and quickly. Spencer has caterpillars that have transformed into chrysalises in his room. He listened to a book on the lifecycle of a butterfly. Spencer completed a cut and paste activity that involved placing the words of the four stages of the lifecycle in the correct order.

Spencer required more prompting and encouragement today to get through his homework than has been necessarily in the past few weeks.
Matthew had questions about standardized tests and how their scoring varies from other tests. We addressed those questions in general terms.
Matthew and I discussed some of the metrics that are used to gauge intelligence such as the intelligence quotient test.
We discussed measures and types of intelligence. We discussed some of the other standardized tests and their content. We took a sample test to get a feel for different question types such as spatial reasoning, numerical progressions and the like.
We reviewed the work that Matthew needs to complete at home prior tonight and made sure he had all the needed materials.
Matthew worked on an assignment comparing some survivalist that he has studied in English class. We read an article. We watched a video about one of the influencers. We discussed some of the complications that were presented in the article.
Matthew and I discussed various methods for prioritizing school work. He mentioned that his current method is to complete lesser tasks first as they may serve as distraction when he is tackling the major tasks.
We will delve deeper into the pros and cons of various methods. For now, we are promoting self-awareness and meta learning in the form of mapping results to implemented strategies.
He worked on his math homework, science homework, and then he studied for his science quiz tomorrow. We grouped the information to be memorized in several categories. We practiced using a pneumonic device that the teacher had given him.
