Lesson Topic
tangent lines to circles
Lesson Outline
I worked with Matthew to explore the properties of tangent lines to circles. I explained to him how the radius to the point of tangency always forms a right angle. We did some problems to practice that relationship. There was no assignment.

Lesson Topic
secant lines and segments and circles
Lesson Outline
The plan was to finish introducing the various subtopics and cases involved in calculating angles and segment lengths of secants and circles. I would have explained how the calculations depend on whether the secants intersect inside or outside of circles. I would have then gone through several practice problems to demonstrate the formulas for each of the cases. Unfortunately, Matthew was not available for instruction either in person or virtually. There was no assignment.

Lesson Topic
Problems involving inscribed angles in circles.
Lesson Outline
I worked some problems with Joshua to help him understand the relationships between arc measures, central angles, and inscribed angles. I also showed him how opposite angles of inscribed quadrilaterals are supplemental. There was no assignment.

Lesson Comments
Joshua is still far too distracted to be an effective geometry student. It is taking far too long for each problem to be worked due to Joshua's distractions. His lack of maturity is directly impacting his progress.
Session Date
Lesson Topic
secant lines and segments and circles and general review
Lesson Outline
The plan was to finish doing problems about secant lines and segments and their relationships to circles. I was then going to lead Sam through some general review problems to summarize how angles and segment lengths are calculated in circles. Since Sam was not available for instruction either in person or virtually, I will need to re-present this lesson in the future. There was no assignment.

Sam is continuing to lose many hours of instruction time. As a result, there may be some problem for him in completing the time requirements of his course.

Lesson Topic
Secant lines and their intersections with circles
Lesson Outline
Sam and I began to do problems involving secant lines intersecting inside or outside circles. Before we started, I explained how he had to make sure he understood whether the problem was about angles or segment lengths. Once that decision had been made, he had to decide which case the intersection of the secant lines involved. Then he could choose the correct formula and substitute the correct data into the formulas and solve them. There was no assignment.

Sam doesn't have much patience for problems which take multiple steps to finish. I work with him all the time to develop his patience in solving problems.

Lesson Topic
Inscribed Angles in circles
Lesson Outline
I worked with Joshua on problems involving inscribed angles in circles to reinforce the basic theorems. I emphasized how the inscribed angle measure is always half of the arc measure of the circle. I also reinforced the fact that any triangle inscribed in a semicircle will be a right triangle and any quadrilateral inscribed in a circle will gave opposite angles supplementary. There was no assignment.

Inscribed Angles
Lesson Outline
I explained to Joshua the definition of an inscribed angle and showed him how the measure of the inscribed angle is half the measure of the inscribed arc. I also showed him how a triangle inscribed in a semicircle is always a right triangle and how the opposite angles of a quadrilateral are always supplemental. We did a few problems to reinforce the ideas. There was no assignment.
