I began with a review of the sounds deck with visual, auditory, and blending drills. Graphemes included ee, g, it, oo, ph, ea, ur, ai, or, er, ay, oa, ow. I revisited the ow as /ō/ and /ow/ grapheme, dictating words to determine mastery (clown, group, now, plow, snow, grow). I dictated the following irregular words: all, walk, talk, two, who. I re-taught the doubling rule; Kip demonstrated mastery of reading and spelling example words. We co-read one chapter of the novel, Ranger. To conclude, we played a game of "sight word Jenga."
Kip and I played three games of chess today while some other students watched. He was a great at offensive approaches which led us to work on his defensive tactics.
Kip and I began our session with Kip completing a religion test on lesson 7, focusing on the words- devotion, liturgy of the word, and liturgical year. We then read aloud, "Writing on a Wasp's Nest". Kip answered questions, a short response, and written response focusing on comparisons. We ended our session with cleaning Kip's desk & room.

The reading we read today was difficult for Kip to read. We took turns reading the paragraphs.
Math – Kelcy learned to use fraction strips on a number line to locate and draw points for fractions. Then he learned how to use fractions in word problems. Next he learned that when the numerator equals the denominator the fraction is equal to one. He was able to identify equal parts of a whole such as four fourths is equal to one whole.
Kip finished the brainpop video on communities. He took the brain pop quiz. Kip created a poster for Urban communities. He added pictures that represent urban communities such as buildings, cars, traffic, pollutuion, and harbors.
Kip read an article about the West Region. Kip created a poster using land characteristics, weather, and national landmarks symbols to represent the West region. Kip reviewed communities in his textbook and watched a brainpop video on different communities in regions.
Kip and I began our session with Kip completing fifteen minutes of iReady. We then read aloud a reading, "The Great Inca Road". We then completed questions relating to the reading focusing on comparisons. Kip completed a grammar activity, reading aloud each sentence and correcting the 'article' mistakes. He used the articles a, an, and the. We then researched riddles and Kip chose his favorite ones to write in his grammar book, using the correct articles. We ended our session with reviewing for a religion test on Thursday.
Math – Kelcy learned that a unit fraction is a fraction that names one equal part of a whole. Then he looked at several fractions with one as its top number or numerator indicating one equal part of a whole. He learned that unit fractions cannot be simplified. Next he learned to write fractions as words and numbers.
Science – Kelcy watched a movie on the 3 ways fossils are formed. Then he researched fossils of ancient sharks, dinosaurs, and birds.
Kip read an article on the Mid West Region. Kip brainstormed characteristics of the Mid West region. He described it to be flat, rich soil, containing lots of wheat and corn, famous landmarks, and cold, harsh winters with hot, harsh summers. He created a poster that contained symbols and phrases to describe his region.
