Environmental Science:
Cell Progression -
Rory began his environmental science class by taking notes as I described the cell progression, which described the incremental advancement from an organelle to a cell, to a tissue etc. continuing all the way through the level of biosphere. I then quizzed his understanding of the process by asking the difference between a single bone and an entire skeleton, or a blood sample and a single blood cell. I asked him if there was more than one biosphere and then had him explain his answer. Homework: be prepared for a test on our next meeting.

Rory printed the lyrics to one of the songs that he researched. We identified past vs present. We reviewed the past tense of AR,ER and IR. Rory was assigned to underline verbs and began to replace certain lyrics with his own.
Rory watched various clips on musicians from Spanish speaking countries. He had to research different types of music and then write a paragraph to express why he likes or does not like that type of music. We communicated about the music in Spanish.
In this session, Rory worked on a combination of linear and quadratic and radical equations. This exercise showed that he could move from problem to problem using different techniques.
Rory and I discussed different Spanish musicians and the various types of music found in Spanish speaking countries. We discussed a future project to create a piece that has his own music mixed with a Spanish sound. Later in the day, we reviewed the topic of hobbies, including music.
In this session, we solved quadratic and radical equations by extracting square roots. This is just one method for solving zeros of a function. Rory will work on three other methods for finding zeros of a quadratic.
Rory and I continued our study of the book. We read several pages. Rory began a double journal entry highlighting a meaningful quote. We also discussed going back and dissecting the pages with song lyrics on them recognizing and documenting the poetic devices and imagery used.
