Matthew was charged with increasing his level of responsibility for his daily in-class activities.
These activities include pre-lesson reviews and post-lesson reviews. He did a fantastic job of taking ownership and he demonstrated some showmanship to boot.
Matthew with minimal prompting was able to articulate the needed information.
Matthew was given an assignment pertaining to the 55 essential verbs designated in the book 501 Spanish Verbs.
In order to build his familiarity with these verbs, Matthew is to list the verbs and manipulate them in meaningful ways. We will build on this list throughout the year.

Matthew's lunch was not delivered to the school. So, we had to walk to McDonalds and give him a moment to eat.
We started our day with a quick student lead review.
Matthew commented that he is gaining confidence in the vocabulary and feels ready for the quiz tomorrow.
Matthew was then guided through 3 exercises on the website StudySpanish.com. He will be using this resource to review Spanish 1 & 2 content. This will be done primarily outside of the classroom. He is to turn in his homework each week. The final deadline is September 17th.
We then discussed the forms of media that he consumes on a regular basis and found strategies to start to consume Spanish content as well.
Matthew learned how to prepare a dish in Spanish that uses Salsa Verde.
While speaking only Spanish, we worked together to cook a meal. He was exposed to kitchen vocabulary like blender, microwave, salt, etc.
I asked him to find different items, prepare parts of the meal, and to explain in English phrases that were said to him in Spanish.
Matthew did a phenomenal job.
He was able to translate well. He asked for clarification when needed. Perhaps most impressively, he had a positive attitude while the entire class was conducted in Spanish. He asked that phrases be repeated in Spanish rather than request English. He He used Spanish phrases like "de nada" when they were appropriate.
As a bonus, it turns out that he not only excels in Spanish but cooking as well. Our food was delicious.
Marcel took a 50 question vocabulary test covering the words for which he was responsible from our reading.
He demonstrated a strong command of the content. I am proud of the work that he has put in to learn the words and deepen his understanding of the language.
Marcel was prompted to draw 5 cards from his deck of Spanish note cards. He then wrote a free style passage using those vocabulary words. We repeated the exercise 3x. Marcel was able to create very distinct passages each time the exercise was run. I later identified some areas for him to work on if he wants to become fluent in the language.
Marcel and I concluded his Spanish 3 year by previewing what awaits him in the next levels of Spanish whether it be in high school, college, or beyond.
He was offered an opportunity to taste authentic Mexican food in the form of a popular candy. We discussed the historical evidence found in the cuisine of different peoples.
