Marcel started the session by working on his Spanish vocabulary.

We discussed the translations that he had found and then spent time in class helping him to commit the words to memory.

We then worked on a Spanish song. We translated the chorus of the song from Spanish to English and did a brief analysis of the lyrics and images.

We reviewed for the test and took the test over the subjunctive tense.

We reviewed the homework and past subjunctive tense. We completed the practice exercises on page 286 and completed a quiz.

We reviewed the homework and read "Pobre Diablo". We retold the story using past participle verbs in Spanish. We completed practice grammar exercises.

We reviewed the homework and discussed a chart on past participle verbs. We also read a book titled "Pobre Diablo" emphasizing the past participle verbs.

We completed a practice review for the upcoming test.

We reviewed proper grammar when using the future tense. We wrote sentences using the future tense to describe family, careers, and relationships.

Marcel and I started our session with a medium length Spanish conversation. He did a great job with comprehension. He did a fair job with his responses, but was unable to express himself on one occasion and was happy to let me do most of the speaking. I thought that he did a wonderful job for our first attempt at a conversation of this nature.

He then worked on paragraph summaries for the story that we are reading. He was tasked with writing one or two sentences in English that capture the heart of the paragraphs that we have read up to this point in the story.

He did a great job.

We finished our lesson by translating the chorus of a Spanish song.

My first activity with Alex was to sit down at the computer and discuss with him each of the key grammatical concepts that he should have been exposed to up to this point in a traditional curriculum leading up to and including the Spanish 3 course.

We started at the very basic and ended with concepts of the Subjunctive and present progressive.

We identified areas in which he was less confident and his strongest areas.

We discussed his personal goals for Spanish acquisition. I informed him of the extra efforts that it would take for him to accomplish his desired goals. I told him strategies that could help him to achieve those goals.

We read from two different Spanish texts of different difficulty levels. We discussed the different conjugations and themes of the texts.

We had an extended conversation that was conducted completely in Spanish. We conversed for 7 minutes.

Afterwords, we dissected the conversation, and discussed ways to improve.

It was a very productive session. Alex is a promising student and I look forward to helping him accomplish his goals this year.

Marcel was informed that he will be tested on the vocabulary from the book that we are reading. It is a significant amount of new words.

We revised the vocabulary together to ensure that the definitions which he found were contextually appropriate for the text we are analyzing.

If future sessions, we will address the format of the vocabulary test to be given.
