TEAMS: Taxonomy / Animals - Chordata -
We reviewed the differences between the invertebrates and chordates. We then examined the invertebrate chordates (urochordata and cephalochordate), represented by tunicates (sea squirts) and lancelet fish. These are the simplest chordates and have only the basic notochord (for part of their lives) and lack vertebrae. We discussed the characteristics all chordates have in common: a notochord, a spinal chord, pharyngeal ‘gill’ slits, a tail, a digestive track including an anus and a mouth. We reviewed the main classes, and the areas where distinction can be found: hot/cold blood, parity, skin-type, gills/lungs, type of eggs.
GT and I worked on his last regular lesson in his vocabulary book. it involved two sets of words. We studied them and viewed how they are used in context. We read informational text selections using the new vocabulary words. We also completed several of the application activities. We then discussed the section of the novel that GT had read for homework. We discussed the recurring themes within the novel. GT then answered in detail an essay question as an evaluation for that section of the novel complete with textual evidence properly cited. GT did a good job. He will read the next section of the novel for homework.
In this activity, GT used the three rules of logarithms to expand and contract the expressions. This is important for GT, as he will be using all the rules to solve exponential equations.
In this activity, GT completed two activity sheets. In the first activity GT was given a logarithmic function and had to determine the inverse exponential function. In the second activity GT was given a logarithmic equation and had to determine its value from several other log equations.
In this activity, GT reviewed the 8 rules of logarithms and then started his review. This exercise reviewed the definition of logarithms, and changing from exponential form to logarithmic form.
GT and I watched a "Crash Course Economics" video discussing economics of the Healthcare industry. We learned about public vs private healthcare and how the US' structure compares to other countries.

TEAMS: Taxonomy / Animals - Bones -
GT was shown a collection of vertebrae (bones). We examined, as best we could, the differences in size, texture, density, and weight, and discussed form follows function. We talked about the massive increase in chromosomes that occurred for this phyla to flourish. We started a list of Chordates, with the three Sub-Phyla, (Urochordata, Cephalochordate, and Vertebrata) and the characteristics that distinguish each group.
