TEAMS: Taxonomy / Animals - Arthropods
We examined the phyla: Arthropoda, which consists of four classes: Crustacean, Chelicerata, Insects, and Myriapoda. We then watched a ‘Shape of Life’ video illustrating the evolutionary changes and advantages of the arthropods. We discussed the physical features related to this group. All arthropods have three body sections: head, thorax and abdomen, and segmented appendages. They all molt out of their exoskeleton, as they grow. This phylum represents the first animals to leave the sea and populate the terrestrial landscape. The segmented legs allowed for movement over all terrains and minor evolutionary jumps allowed them to also learn to fly. There are more arthropods than any other animal phyla, in fact they represent 80% of all animals on Earth today. Homework: study notes on Invertebrates

TEAMS: Taxonomy / Animals - Mollusc
GT and I discussed the movie Chasing Coral, focusing on the biology of coral, especially the how and why they are bleaching. We then returned to our exploration of the phyla of the animal kingdom. We examined the phyla Mollusca, which consists of three classes: gastropods, bivalves, and cephalopods. We then watched a ‘Shape of Life’ video illustrating the evolutionary changes and advantages of the three classes. We examined the manner by which gastropods can defend themselves from predators, and how some prey on bivalves. We also found several short videos of bivalves including gooey ducks, and giant clams. We then examined the cephalopods and their amazing ability to change the color and texture of their skin, and exhibit their intelligence. We listed the new physical features of these evolutionary advances.
In this activity, GT and I talked about continuity and why it is important. We also talked about removable and non removable discontinuity. In this session we also worked on two special cases of rational functions and why they are so difficult.
In this activity, GT focused on slant asymptote. We started with reviewing the division process by dividing by linear and quadratic functions. We ended the session graphing two rational functions using the five step process.
GT and I discussed the next chapter in "Think and Grow Rich" having to do with autosuggestion. Then, we continued reviewing for his quiz on demand/supply elasticity and production later this week.
GT and I learned a new set of vocabulary words. We studied them, discussed them and used them in sentences. We then completed all of the application activities for all of the lesson words. We then moved to further our study of the novel. We discussed the pages that GT had read for homework. We also discussed GT's response to the essay questions for that part of the novel. We discussed the best textual evidence needed to support his thesis. Using proper MLA citation, GT added his textual support. We then continued our study fo the next part of the novel. We previewed the next two essay questions. GT will read more of the novel for homework.
GT and I continued reviewing topics for his upcoming quiz, including: shifts in demand and supply, elasticity, examples of inelastic and elastic goods, luxury/inferior/normal goods.
