Occupational Therapy Treatment Session
Lesson Outline
Luke was seen in his room for a 45 minute occupational therapy treatment session. Focus of treatment was on improving his bilateral integration/hand usage, fine motor development, graphomotor skills, postural control and sensory processing/organization for improved general performance in various environments. Began our session outside with 10 minutes of a heavy work activity for proprioceptive input. Set a timer to help with a smooth transition back inside. Used Rol-n-Write to practice letter formations of the lowercase alphabet. Luke's sessions continue to focus on refining his graphomotor and visual motor development. He is making steady progress in these areas. Sessions also continue to focus on increasing listening skills, attention span to task, and regulating emotions. He is improving slowly in all areas.

Richard was seen in his room for a 45-minute treatment session. His session focuses on improving his postural control, integration of retained reflexes, visual motor skills and integration, fine motor skills, dexterity, manipulation, ocular motor development and graphomotor development/keyboarding as an alternative means to written communication. The beginning of our session was spent at a Black History Month school assmebly in which Richard presented about a chef. Once back in his room we continued working on Script Island and he was instructed on the lowercase letter "k". He wrote it well after practicing it large with auditory cues. He reviewed all previously learned letters from this group which consisted of letters "e,l, h and b". He also was able to connect previously learned letters to write his mom's name in script - kira. All letters in lowercase at this time. Great session.

Began treatment with reviewing "The Monkeys Eat at the Island Grill" group. Richard was instructed on lowercase letter "b"and wrote the letter well in cursive. He was able to connect previous learned letters to create words in cursive with moderate to max. verbal cues provided. He wrote words such as "bill, bit, bye, and boo". Richard does best when he is given small breaks because at times this type of work can be difficult and frustrating form him. Next, we worked on Ann Arbor tracking program to work on his visual pursuits and saccades. For the first sentence he tracked in jumbles paragraph it took 35 seconds to find 10 words after three attempts (he asked to start over three times). His second sentence it took him 37 seconds to find 8 words with only one attempt. Good session with hard work.

Luke was seen in his room for a 45 minute occupational therapy treatment session. Focus of treatment was on improving his bilateral integration/hand usage, fine motor development, graphomotor skills, postural control and sensory processing/organization for improved general performance in various environments. Began treatment in room continuing to work on whole body listening abilities. Luke has trouble following directions at times because he has ideas about what he wants to do versus what his teachers/therapists want him to accomplish. At times this make teaching/learning difficult hence while teaching the importance of listening and following directions is important for Luke. Luke also is a multisensory learner and does best when he is learning through "doing". He continues to work hard with improving his handwriting in print, listening skills and self regulation skills in OT. Good session.

Luke was seen in his room for a 45 minute occupational therapy treatment session. Focus of treatment was on improving his bilateral integration/hand usage, fine motor development, graphomotor skills, postural control and sensory processing/organization for improved general performance in various environments. At the beginning of today's session Luke wanted to take all the stickers off the glass on his door. Next we sat at the table to work on handwriting. He concentrated on letter sizing and line placement of the letters and numbers during this time. Luke needs help with forming the number "5" and does best when he is provided with moderate verbal cues for the size, form and line placement of his letters at this time. Luke continued working in Print Island. He wrote two sentences well and reported he wanted to use his his pencil as a spacer between words versus the spaceman we had made together out of a popsicle stick. Good work today.

Focus of treatment was on improving his bilateral integration/hand usage, fine motor development, graphomotor skills, postural control and sensory processing/organization for improved general performance in various environments. At the start of the session Luke expressed interest in making a book. He titled it "It's Raining Pikachu and Eric". He worked hard with tracing a picture of Pikachu from a magazine in his room. Our session was cut short because the school was in an assembly for "Black History Month" in the cafeteria. The OT joined Luke for the assembly and worked with his self regulation during this time. Luke mostly sat well until he imitated other peers who went under the lunch table when the music got loud. During games for prizes, Luke did get upset and cried when he didn't win. Talked him through the sadness and how we can't always win.

Began treatment with typing.com to work on the letters "o, b, f and l" Richard had trouble when typing L and often would hit the i key instead of the l key because the i key looks like a lowercase l. I explained it is confusing and that he has to just learn where and what these keys are. Continued with cursive letter review of the letter "q" - Richard thought it was a "g". Reviewed cursive letters "e and l" and continued to learn the letter "h" today in script. He was able to connect letters to write words in cursive with previous learned letters like "hill". Good session.

Richard has his vision re-evaluation today with Dr. Murray. He got to school later in the day and his eyes were fatigued from all the testing he had undergone earlier in the day. Reviewed cursive letters that were previously learned. Worked on visual discrimination using an I Spy book. Lastly, Richard told OT that he received an oculus for working hard in vision therapy. OT spoke to Richard and to Richard's mom about the research out there in regards to the oculus and how it is not necessarily good for the visual pathways he is working on improving. OT suggested they speak with Dr. Murray OD to discuss benefit and possible negative side effects of using this VR system for someone Richard's age.
