In preparation for tomorrow's final test on the novel ,today we continued to work on a practice essay that we began last week. Based on David's draft, we first corrected tense consistency. Next, we addressed topic sentence revision and discussed how to incorporate additional textual evidence. As we revised ,I provided instruction on how and when to incorporate transition phrases such as : likewise, similarly and as a result, Additionally, we addressed proper placement of commas. During the remaining time, we focused on study skills and reviewed how to use our class notes and the study guide to prepare for the test.
David was independently working on his graffiti project when I arrived to class. He had completed one building already and picked up techniques to simplify the drawing process. His focus and consistency remain strong.
David continued working on his graffiti cityscape project and focused on completing the base sketches of two buildings. He’s making consistent progress. His design is very ambitious and detailed.
We will review geometry problems that require basic algebra to find a solution. The the problems will involve perimeter, area , and volume.

We started with some basic problems but as we went on we looked at more complex problems and found volumes of cones and pyramids. This led to a discussion of irregularly shaped objects areas and volumes. This then led to discussion about using calculus to find areas and volumes. It was an awesome session, David stimulates great conversations with his insightful questions and comments.
As we have finished reading the novel, today we worked on citing textual evidence of situational irony , writing a practice essay , and stating a theme in a full sentence. First, I directed David to the text and we discussed the disparity between Kino's high expectations and the reality of the pearl. David then located the negative references to the pearl as "gray, malignant , and ulcerous" -the ironic reality. Next, we discussed how to state a theme and possible subjects for themes of the novel-greed, and the impermeable class structure. David then constructed two thematic statements using these ideas. Last, I distributed a practice essay on the novel. We worked on creating a topic sentence and constructing sentences with details, clear plot references, and transition phrases.
David completed a Quizlet today in class.
David read the packet and then answered all the questions.
We then had an open discussion about the importance of the United Nations.
David and I continue to work on his fitness skills.
Today, we started with a jog on the perimeter of the field.
Next, we did a couple of sets of push-ups and sit-ups.
We finished with a stretch and cool down.

David was engaged in today's topic of the United Nations and the specific descriptions/roles of the important bodies/components of the U.N.
David worked on his verb notecards. He also reviewed his paragraphs from last class. We started to write his paragraph on things he likes using gustar.
David reviewed aquatic ecosystems. We discussed sediment deposition at the mouth of rivers and erosion at the headwaters. We discussed why estuaries are good migration and breeding grounds for migratory birds. He began the lesson review questions using the textbook as reference.
