Abby read, Phantom of the Opera, in French, Chapter 10, parts 1 and 2. She translated and identified new vocabulary for her word bank. She also received new grammar constructions which she added to her data folder.

Abby wrote 22 original sentences in her journal describing the upcoming Spring break. She used the future tense for the majority of her entries. Abby’s vocabulary, and use of idiomatic phrases has expanded nicely.

Abby read part 1 of chapter 10 in French. She translated and answered questions orally, in French. Abby added vocabulary to her word bank.

15 minutes - general conversation in French... Journal - Abby had written 10 sentences for homework - she read them, we corrected grammar and vocabulary. She then added 10 more original sentences, read the entire journal entry, added vocabulary to her word bank and grammar to her data folder.

Today was Mardi Gras day. Abby studied the origin of this holiday and how it is celebrated all over the world; with special concentration on France and New Orleans. Abby saw YouTube videos on the computer and read about the holiday on history.com.

Abby read, in French, chapter 9 in its entirety. Speaking in French, she answered questions regarding the plot and characters. She translated and identified grammatical constructions. She then answered the 30 questions at the end of the chapter.

20 minute conversation in French concerning plans for the upcoming spring break... We then went over the homework - answers to the 30 questions at the end of Chapter 8 of Phantom. For the remaining time, Abby read, in French, and translated part one of Chapter 9 of Phantom.

Abby wrote 21 original sentences as entries into her journal. We reviewed the imperfect tense and she then used it for her entries. Abby used both regular and irregular verbs forms of the imperfect tense. We reviewed the future tense and she used that tense for the last 3 sentences of her journal.

During the first hour, Abby read Chapter 8, in French, of Phantom. She translated and identified grammar and vocabulary. During the second hour, we went on a field trip to Barnes and Noble. I showed Abby the differences between the French dictionaries and grammar books. She chose one dictionary and one grammar book to own and have at home. We then went to a Gelato store owned by a Frenchman from Corse. Abby spoke to him in French then listened as he and I had a conversation in French. On the way back to school, I asked her to translate the conversation she heard. She understood a bit over 90% of the conversation. She did very well.
