We began the first session by going over the homework - Exercise A from the story she is now reading “ The Phantom of the Opera” in French. Abby completed reading, in French and translating Chapter 1. She put all her new and unfamiliar vocabulary into a word bank for this story. During the 2nd hour, we went outside and Abby wrote entries into her journal. She spoke about the date, the weather, and the upcoming Christmas vacation. She went into detail on the gifts she had purchased for members of her family. She used the present, past and future tenses. For homework, she will write a summary of Chapter 1 of “the Phantom”, in French.

Abby continued updating her word bank and summary of “Presque Mort”. She then finished reading chapter 7 in French. She did a translation and I asked her questions in French. She answered in French. Her grammar was good and she was missing only a few vocabulary words. During the 2nd hour we went over the 5 basic tenses: present, imperfect, future, conditional and passe compose. I went on to explain compound tenses. I gave Abby the rules to form the compound tenses and the translations. There are no compound tenses in Presque Mort, but Abby will complete this story shortly and her next stories all contain the compound tenses. She did very well today.
