We reviewed the homework assignment then Abby completed reading Chapter 3 of Phantom of the Opera in French. She added vocabulary to her word bank; translated and identified some idiomatic phrases. For homework she will do exercises B & C.

We went over Abby’s homework assignment: Exercises A, B & C from chapter 2 of Phantom of the Opera. Abby read her answers in French. She then began reading Chapter 3. She read in French; identified new vocabulary; added those words to her word bank and translated. Abby will do Exercise A for homework. Abby did very well

Abby read all of chapter 2 of Phantom of the Opera in French; added new vocabulary to her word bank; translated and answered questions in French that I had asked. For homework, she will do exercise A. She did very well.

We began the first session by going over the homework - Exercise A from the story she is now reading “ The Phantom of the Opera” in French. Abby completed reading, in French and translating Chapter 1. She put all her new and unfamiliar vocabulary into a word bank for this story. During the 2nd hour, we went outside and Abby wrote entries into her journal. She spoke about the date, the weather, and the upcoming Christmas vacation. She went into detail on the gifts she had purchased for members of her family. She used the present, past and future tenses. For homework, she will write a summary of Chapter 1 of “the Phantom”, in French.

Abby read in French; she added new vocabulary and idioms to her word bank; she identified grammar structures and translated. She needed very little assistance. She did very well.

Abby began “Phantom of the Opera” in French today. She watched a short video on you tube to acquaint her with the story. She read in French, wrote down new vocabulary, identified grammatical structures and answered a few oral questions.
The text comes with questions at the end of each chapter. Abby will do exercises 1 and 2 for homework. She did very well with this classic.

Abby completed reading Presque Mort in French. We discussed the ending, which was a surprise; the changes in behavior of the characters and the 2 plots that had been running simultaneously throughout the story. She then answered questions in French and updated her word bank. For homework she will write out the summary for the last 5 pages of the story that we read today.

Abby continued updating her word bank and summary of “Presque Mort”. She then finished reading chapter 7 in French. She did a translation and I asked her questions in French. She answered in French. Her grammar was good and she was missing only a few vocabulary words. During the 2nd hour we went over the 5 basic tenses: present, imperfect, future, conditional and passe compose. I went on to explain compound tenses. I gave Abby the rules to form the compound tenses and the translations. There are no compound tenses in Presque Mort, but Abby will complete this story shortly and her next stories all contain the compound tenses. She did very well today.

Abby used today to catch up on her word bank and summaries. Abby’s story has advanced vocabulary and grammar constructions. We identified the vocabulary and grammar that caused her difficulty. I explained each as we went through the 34 pages of her story. Abby catches on quickly, she did very well.

Abby and I went outside. She added entries to her journal. She described her weekend activities and the people she saw. Abby speaks French very well and her grammar and vocabulary are very good. Abby and I returned to her room and we continued reading Presque Mort. Abby read in French, translated and answered questions regarding the story. She added a few vocabulary words to her word bank and identified some grammar structures. She did very well.
