20 minutes - we checked the homework - verb conjugations in the data folder. Corrections and completions were made. The grammar entries were then used with today’s classwork. Abby read Chapter 5 of Phantom of the Opera in French. She translated and identified grammar constructions and idiomatic phrases. She added words to her word bank. She used the verb conjugations from her data folder to assist with the translation. At the end of Chapter 5 she answered the 30 questions. She did very well.

Today’s lesson was skyped. Abby created a data folder to retain grammar lessons pertinent to her learning style. We began with Abby creating a page of 10 irregular verbs to be written out in the present tense and translated. She then put these 10 verbs into the imperfect, future and conditional tenses. These verbs were chosen as they are the 10 most repeated verbs in the short story she is now reading. I assisted as she completed the assignment.

We began with a 15-minute conversation in French. We then went outside and reviewed the imperfect and passe compose tenses prior to her making entries into her journal. She wrote 20 original sentences in French using the imperfect and passe compose. This was done by Abby relaying her activities from the weekend. Each sentence used a different verb. She did very well.

15 minute review of Passé Composé. Abby wrote entries into her journal. She used the passé composé and imperfect tenses to describe her weekend. She wrote 24 sentences and used many new vocabulary words from her current reader “phanton of the opera”. She did very well.

She answered, in French, all the questions at the end of the chapter. Periodically, through the lesson, I asked questions in French and she answered correctly.

Abby then related her activities over Christmas break. Today I asked questions in the past, imperfect and present tenses. She flawlessly responded with the correct tense to each question. She had only a few problems with idiomatic phrases which she did not recognize. I assisted and she continued on with her entries. We then returned to her room and Abby read Chapter 4 of Phantom of the Opera in French. She read and translated until the hour was over. She did very well.

Abby read her homework answers to exercises B & C of chapter 3 of Phantom of the Opera in French. We then turned on You Tube and Abby had the opportunity to watch the Christmas traditions and customs of native French families. During her second hour, there was a holiday party.
