Jonathan is confident and very competent in determining his assignments and submitting them online.
Math – Jonathan practiced drawing shapes with different numbers of sides on arrays of dots. Then he practiced identifying shapes based on specific criteria. He practiced drawing cubes and identifying each side, each vertex, and the number of faces. Then he drew pictures of hexagons, squares, and triangles to determine the features.
Science – Jonathan watched a video on the scientific method. He learned that the scientific method begins by asking a question. The next step is to make a hypothesis which is using what you know to make a prediction. The third step is to perform an experiment which is done by gathering materials and testing all objects in exactly the same way to get accurate results. The results or data from the experiment is information that is recorded on what you observed. Next you determine if your hypothesis was correct by drawing a conclusion based on your results. The last step is to share what you’ve learned.
Jonathan viewed a language arts video on suffixes. He then finished his book, "Cat in The Hat". Jonathan prepared a rough draft report on what he read from that story. He also practiced some vocabulary words for a Religion test tomorrow.
Today we continued working on recognizing where each note is and applying the prompted chord. Jonathan has a great eye for the piano. He is quick to remember chord shapes as well as applying clear rhythm.
Math – Jonathan practiced recognizing and describing cubes. He knows that a cube has sides of equal length. Then he learned that cubes are formed from 6 square faces and all faces are the same size. Vertices are formed when 3 faces come together. Next he learned to identify a rectangular prism from a cube and the number of edges and vertices.
Opened with a light dynamic stretch to loosen muscles followed by a light dynamic warmup to get the blood flowing. Jonathan and I participated in a series of different games that helped him improve on his body control and eye-hand coordination.
Jonathan chose Charmander(Pokemon character) to create for his second sculpture. We used a reference image that he had chosen to create the armature for the character. We placed tin foil all over the lower half of the body and began covering it with clay. We were able to cover the belly and legs of the character.
