Math – We practiced using addition and subtraction strategies with Two-Digit numbers on word problems. Then we practiced subtraction of 2-digit numbers to solve a puzzle.
Science – We learned that a species is a group of living things that have many traits in common. An apple and orange are different species just as a wolf and a Fox are not related.

Math – We learned how to use subtraction strategies with two-digit numbers. Jonathan prefers the number line. Then we practiced adding the difference to the amount we subtracted to check our answers. Next we were introduced to using addition with carryover and subtraction with borrowing. We used these strategies to complete the I-ready comprehension check.
Science – We completed Day 3 of “Why can’t an apple tree grow oranges?” We learned that there are many kinds of citrus fruits that are closely related and there are many varieties of apples. The apples have only slightly different traits such as Granny Smith that are good for baking, Fuji which are very juicy, and Golden Delicious which are very sweet but bruise easily.

Finish Lesson 6 from the textbook pages 79-80. Created an acrostic poem using the word "Grace". Each letter started a sentence or phrase to help remember the definition of grace or teach others about grace.

Reading:
Pages 182-184 in textbook. Read "Abe Lincoln's Cabin" and review text features in the passage. Respond to the questions on page 184.
iReady - Literal vs non-literal meanings

Grammar:
Recognize adverbs and their different functions. Recognize correct and incorrect capitalization usage. Page 60

Math - iReady Subtraction skills and practice. As Jonathan was practicing these skills, I introduced how doubles are the same as multiplying by 2's. Practiced some 2's multiplication problems.

The cardinal directions were reviewed. Jonathan did well creating a zoo (on paper), by following directions involving the cardinal directions. He enjoyed both giving and following directions to different equipement outside on the playground involving using cardinal directions.

Math - We practiced using addition and subtraction strategies with two-digit numbers. Several tools were introduced including using a number line, base-10 blocks, and counting up. Then we focused on using these strategies to find a missing addend. Next we completed the required 15 minutes on I-Ready.
Science – We completed Day 2 of “Why can’t an apple tree grow oranges?” We learned that an orange is a citrus fruit and citrus are fruits with thick rinds that are sweet or sour.

Lesson Outline
We did a warm-up with a yoga to increase oxygen flow throughout the body. Training included three laps around the playground. We did sit-ups and basic pushups. We used the elastic bands for upper body strengthening exercises.
