Mini assessment given today to identify the letters and sounds of the letters she knows. This will be used to build on what she knows and work on what she needs to know.

In today's session Penny asked a lot of good questions about snakes since yesterday was an encounter with a snake. Some of the questions were about what they eat, how they grow and a few others. To explain some of these things, we examined a snake's skin to help visualize the differences between us and a snake.
Letter identification /Letter Sound – I read the book, “My ‘V’ Book” looking for the letter “Vv” and the pictures that start with “Vv”. After, we made a Valentine hat just like Miss ”V’s”.
Using my bag of block letters, she picked a block from the bag and stated the letter name.
We also… Picking up a letter card, Penny had to name the letter and give its sound.
Sight Words – Penny read the words on her word ring.
Letter Formation – Penny practiced writing the letters “V” and “Y” as well as her name.
Light dynamic stretch, followed by a light dynamic warm-up. Penny and I worked on a number of drills and activities that helped her improve on her coordination. Catching drills, change of direction drills, etc..
Penny did well carefully cutting on the dotted lines. She enjoyed a cut and paste, letter sorting activity. Penny asked to play a memory game with the few minutes remaining.
Letter Recognition/Initial Consonant sound – picking up a picture card Penny had to make the initial sound of the picture and determine which letter it started with, placing the picture on the corresponding letter card.
Sight Words – Penny now has a “Penny Word Ring” – This has the words she is working on. We went through all the words on her ring.
Letter Formation – Penny practiced writing the letters “q” and “y” as well as her name.
We rolled dice and played a dice game adding numbers up to 10. Penny did a wonderful job adding the numbers together to arrive at a total. Penny practiced writing numbers up to 10 and counting up to 100.

Penny amazed me with how fast she picked up addition! She is sunshine!
Sight word recognition – Fishing game - Each colorful fish is printed with a common sight word...Penny used the magnetic fishing pole to “catch” the fish, say the word, and blend the sounds when needed.
We practiced counting and understanding more or less with the use of a mini treat bag of skittles. We also discussed the differences between colors and flavors.
