Mercer rewrote his spelling homework sentences focusing on neatness. We finished the video of, "The Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler," writing a summary comparing the movie to the book. We discussed chapter 1 and 2 of his new literature book, "The Indian in the Cupboard." He wrote a summary for each chapter, noting characters and story details.
Today's session focused on topography. Mercer spent time working on completing his Topography map. He reviewed material that detailed what features are captured on a topography map and how to create one. Mercer also spent time watching fun facts about volcanos.

Lesson Outline
Mercer finished reading chapter 1 of, "Indian in the Cupboard." It was homework that he hadn't finished. He copied down 20 new vocabulary words and their definitions from chapters 1-3. We reviewed his spelling homework, correcting his mistakes,and going over tonight's homework.
Lesson 2 Plate Tectonics – We watched a movie explaining Alfred Wegener’s theory of Pangaea and we built a Pangaea out of the continents. We connected his evidence which included coal found in the Arctic when it usually is found in forests, mesosaurus fossils on 2 continents now separated by an ocean, and glacier scrappings on rocks in the Karoo desert in Africa. Then we learned how his theory was proven by sonar that detected sea-floor speading.
Mercer took his literature test over, "From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler," and made a 100. We finished watching the video of, "From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler." He was surprised at how different the movie was from the actual book.
