Lesson 2 Plate Tectonics – We learned that when two continental plates collide rock folds and breaks forming mountain ranges and causing earthquakes too. When two oceanic plates collide the denser plate subducts which causes volcanism forming volcanic islands. Divergent tectonic plate boundaries lower pressure as plates move apart and mantle material melts and rises causing eruptions on the surface forming new crust. Shallow earthquakes occur at these boundaries. Transformed plate boundaries slide past each other and can occur perpendicularly to divergent boundaries.
Assignment: Add types of plate boundaries to our science notebook.
Today, Mercer took a break from color theory and worked on his landscape painting. He used his reference photo and created a grid over it. He then created a matching grid over his watercolor paper. Then, we went square by square and sketched the image.
